They can have it, keep it or whatever. Maybe it will suffice for some, ok good. I don't even refer to it as Slate, to me it's Fisher Price

Does Jay Leno count? He was kind.

Oh Jay! Does anyone else hear all the rattles? It rattles more than my 91 Camaro with t-tops, aluminum louvers and almost 140k on it 😆 and I have a radio! 😅

I have worked in the robotics industry...and from what it looks like...with probably no welding to complete, it is probably a fairly simple robotics network of fasteners and gluing parts together. I'd predict the Slate will have to come in very low $20K to make a dent on the market...I can see a decent market for delivery/service call vehicles. My neighbor has a pool service business with a dozen service trucks (Mavericks Hybrids) and is carefully watching the EV Slate.
Built for pool boys and paperboys. The pitiful pickup by Fischer Price. Looks good at first glance as a 2nd car for local driving, but the cost is too high due to insurance, taxes and yearly EV fees. Depreciation too. This might be one to get used as a kick-around in 5-10 years.

I wonder how many of those that had the $50 reservation spot, are going to cough up $250 MORE for a pre-order spot on June 24?

I think it'll be terrible as a service or delivery vehicle.

I would guess a lot will bail because no one is saying what it will cost for a basic content- 3rd world configuration. A Maverick XL is the best deal for a truck <$29,000. Even in this base trim, the Slate will be more to match it. I would guess most early attention grabbers will pay close to $30,000 for something they want to show their friends. If you really want one, wait a year and you will get one for closer to the $20,000 they initially talked. Or 2 years when the sun does it's magic on the non painted plastic body, and pay $10,000.

In Wisconsin. Under the Florida sun, it would be less than a year, Fruit Stripe font colors or not.

If it makes it into full production,
and IF It remains under $30,000,
and IF it has decent real world range I could see it becoming a great little inner city
Grocery getter,
Or local auto parts delivery vehicle,
Or a college kid vehicle.

But most would still need a hybrid or a gasser to get off the porch and actually go somewhere.

If we are about saving money then a single car family is the way.
Having this toy in the driveway next to your real vehicle will never be anything more than
A ‘Toy’ for people with money.
It lets them live in the illusion of,
‘Look at me I’m saving money on gas’

Sign over my fireplace says :

Here are your choices. 🤔
Ford Maverick $24,950 SLATE Truck News & Info 20260617_090900

Slate ☝ $24.950 +destination fee.
I'm guessing that you have to really want an electric vehicle.
With a practical range of around 100 miles. 80% charge for battery health and you never drive it to zero charge.

OR

Or for $2,195 more you can have
a real value👇

Ford Maverick $24,950 SLATE Truck News & Info 20260617_090000

Or $3,195 more than a slate👇

+ destination fee

So, what do you get for $3195:

- power windows
- power door locks
- 13.2"infotainment screen with apple carplay, android auto (wireless)
- steel body parts
- dealer network
- audio system
- paint!
- a real vehicle (truck) produced by a mass manufacturer
- something that looks like a real vehicle- not a kit car
- a proven product warts and all

Finally, if you think the Maverick is built cheap, consider Slate does not have volume scale to get low prices for the components they have to buy- tires, suspension parts, interior parts etc.
These will be to lowest quality parts they can get that pass standards testing. The early adopters will be doing the beta testing of this truck. I think $3195 is money well spent if you really want a small truck that can be used as a daily driver. You will get that back in resale value.
