I'm awaiting a shipping date of my 2025 XLT Hybrid that is currently in production. Already wondering about purchasing an extended warranty. Ford vs outside source? I worked for a Ford dealer in parts/cashier dept. 2016 and remember service dept saying that a bumper to bumper warranty really didn't cover much. Never owned a hybrid and I'm nervous about future issues.

I do recommend getting an extended warranty. You can get Ford's extended warranty from Granger Ford for $25 above dealer's cost (unless you live in California or Florida). Ford has many plans to choose to fit your needs and budget.

I've been burned by extended warranties in the past. Not going to bother this time around with my '25 Maverick.

I believe the Ford warranty covers Hybrid parts for 100,000 miles/8 years. My dealership(McGovern Ford Framingham MA) added a 180,000/10 years on the hybrid parts for no charge(non transferable) I would not worry about the hybrid part of your vehicle. Ford is pretty confident about it if they are going 100k/8.

I would be highly cautious of an outside Warranty company like 'Carshield' versus a Ford backed warranty.
Why do you not want to get a Ford ESP warranty?

I'm also on the fence. I have a 25 Lariat job-2 order on the books with Granger and am considering the full FORD 10 year warranty. We don't plan on driving the truck very much (have a BOLT EUV for all the local drives and a Miata for topless driving) so we won't need all the miles, but we plan on keeping the truck until the wheels fall off.

There's so much technology now in the vehicles I think we would be looking at expensive dealer-only repairs for some of the tech. I do all my own maintenance, so I consider it just an insurance policy.

Looking at the bumper-to-bumper Premium care, $0 deduct, 10 year /60 K miles. Granger price seems like a good deal at the 60K mile range (we'll be cutting it close at 6,000 miles a year I think). Granger is saving me enough money on the 3% below invoice that I can get the truck + the PremiumCare for about the same as my local dealer was willing to sell me the truck alone (x-plan pricing).

I'll make up my mind when the truck comes in (March?) as you can't pre-order the service agreement until you have the truck.

Since Granger offers a 0% interest payment I might as well take the monthly pay over time pay vs all at once. The total price is the same though.

Personally, I do not think it is necessary. I judge my vehicle while it is under the factory warranties. If it has been reliable, I keep it beyond the basic 3/36 warranty. If it has been troublesome, I sell it near the 3 year 36k mile mark when the factory bumper to bumper warranty expires.

Also, you are paying double for the first 3yrs/36k miles. You pay up front for the extended warranty but that defers to the factory warranty so for 3 years they have the use of your money. I think in most cases you can buy an extended warranty at the 3/36 mark from Granger [except in CA and FL] or others

Also, there is a lot of fuckery that goes on when claims are made under extended warranties. So you are paying for something that may or may not benefit you plus you invest time and energy trying to get what you paid for.

Never go for an outside company, most of the extended warranty horror stores are related to 3rd party ones.

It depends on your situation. I tend to drive mine till they die unless I end up hating it.
If you hate it and sell the Mav, you can get a prorated refund.

I've gotten them and they've paid off. It doesn't have to be an unreliable vehicle for it to pay off.
There are some very expensive components now a days, that would be nice to not have to pay for after 3 years.
When you do the numbers as a yearly cost, it's really not that expensive of an insurance plan.

There are people that probably spend more than $220 a year in coffee telling you that much a year to cover your car isn't worth it.
FYI the 220 comes from the 10 year minus the 3 of the factory coverage.

Didn’t look at it that way. I also keep mine a long time. May buy it anyway. Just sucks lol

Arguments pro & con about actually buying one. When it comes down to it, you have to make that decision.

One thing you should consider is if you buy one, get a genuine Ford warranty, not a 3rd party warranty. IIRC, you have up to a year to make the decision before the price goes up. And you do not have to buy it from the dealer that sold you your truck. You can get it from any Ford dealer and it will show up in Ford's computers, under your VIN records. All dealers will see it if you have to go in for warranty work. It'll not be questioned as to where it was purchased.

Both Granger Ford has genuine warranties for much cheaper than your dealer will sell you one. Buy it online and it will appear on your VIN.

I have no problem with a Ford warranty. Just inquiring about extra coverage. Ya know, those pesky phone calls we get when warranty reaches expiration.
