I spent a few hundred to have my local dealer order mine and install it 6 months ago. I had barely used it (maybe a handful of times), and yesterday, I found it not working.

How long should these batteries last? I heard their battery was not replaceable, but it shouldn't last only 6 months with only a few uses. The other one I ordered from the Ford website on my other Maverick is still working.

Maybe. My tps batteries people say last 6 years on my car are on 13 years still kickin. Sometimes they just last.

I think hotter climates will be reduced

I love them! had them last 5 years then sold the truck, battery is not replaceable, ended up breaking the unit trying to.

Had a similar keypad on my 2011 Ranger. Battery lasted about 5 years. The second one about the same. You can break into it and replace the battery although it is not designed for that.

Since that is basically a non-keyless entry fob with a coded lock/unlock button, it should not be sending out radio waves to the truck's system until you start pushing buttons.

Could it have malfunctioned at some point and started being "on" all the time?
Not that it was sending anything out, but just keeping the radio powered up would be bad.

It's possible that the one the dealer sold you was old stock. Or maybe someone has been messing with it while you have the vehicle parked, and it drew down the battery quickly.

That said, although I have the wired version on my truck, every once in a while it does not respond to the correct code being input. Is it consistently not working, or was it just one time?

I've only used a few times, but it's been working until this time and it's not responding now. the light won't lit up

Perhaps there was a time, one of the buttons stuck in the Pressed position and drained the keypad.

I have had mine apart. It was handed to me not installed on the truck. Batteries ARE replaceable if you are careful with the tabs. They are CR2032 (think it was 3) Take spiderwire fishing line to remove from the truck if you have it installed on the door. I installed mine in the gas door. Pics below.....

But yes. They could be replaced in the following years.

Thanks. I think I've seen this somewhere. But I already had an appointment set-up. It shouldn't drain in 6 months especially if there're 3 2032s.

I totally agree. I have had mine for 8 months and it works just fine still. Just went out and used it.
