I doubt you will have to pay for this software update. It is a known issue that you have been having problems with. It may end up being another recall.

Got my THIRD warranty battery last month, 3/36 runs out in less than 3 weeks - I figure I will need to PAY for this software update, since I will be past the 3 years - hope they make it a Customer Satisfaction Program...

I was all ready to take my 22 mavie to dealer today, was growing weary of the battery issue, and went out to the garage and you guessed it, it wouldn
't start. First time for that....so called in the calvary (roadside assistance) to jump start her...after starting, went right to dealer, they checked the battery and said it was no good...(this is the second battery I have gotten)...so brand new battery...thank goodness for warranty! Fingers crossed..
Ford should be embarrassed for putting such cheap batteries in. They should last 7- 8 years. not months!

I don't think it's the battery choice as much as Ford's management strategy of the battery; i.e. the forthcoming software update.

Ii think this maybe Maverick's problem. Too much 💩 draining after shutdown..too little charge while running. 🤣

What I don't understand about this issue is that, I thought the hybrid system from the Escape is what they are using in the Mav... But... Guess not. I have never heard about Escapes having this issue... Buddy has had 2 of Escape Hybrids for work and has never had this issue (however he drives it a lot for work as he goes to customers to fix equipment)...

So your saying it's not getting charged properly....that's even more egregious.
Correct. It *seems* that engineers assumed vehicles would be driven often enough and far enough to keep the 12v battery within 60% +/- state of charge, which, we might guess, they determined is the sweet spot for MPG, 12v battery reserve capacity, battery longevity, etc.

For example, my hybrid has not had any 12v battery issues in now 20k miles. The interior lights always work and it always starts. My driving habits are about 280 miles a week of combined city and freeway. I do have "automatic updates" turned OFF.

I think you are right and I hope it is something I get when I go in for any kind of service

Flooded batteries should stay near 100% charge. It is the high voltage batteries that need to stay between 20-80% charge. The big battery charges the little 12v battery and the drive motors charge the big battery.

put a band aid on a problem ain't gonna fix anything. Wait until when you're out of warranty. Putting on a new battery every time it dies is gonna be expensive.
Yep! I had a 2007 Prius and in 2014 the battery died. As it was still in warranty (barely), they replaced it. Good, I remarked so I’m good for another 80K miles… Nope! Once out of the original warranty, you’re on your own!😐That’s when I realized it was time to switch back to all gasoline! No EV and no hybrids!

12v battery died or the HV battery died? I would think only the HV battery would be covered under 8 year /100k-mile warranty. The 12v would be under the standard 36/36 warranty.

Flooded batteries should stay near 100% charge. It is the high voltage batteries that need to stay between 20-80% charge. The big battery charges the little 12v battery and the drive motors charge the big battery.
For best longevity, a flooded (or AGM for that matter) batteries ideally are often NOT kept at 100% SOC in vehicle applications, as the charge, discharge and ambient temp swings are much larger and extreme on the high ambient temp side. The Mav battery management software likely takes all that into account, but something is obviously amiss; incomplete/bad assumptions on anticipated driving habits, incomplete stats on parasitic drains (telemetrics, etc), maybe originally designed for a different battery chemistry, or capacity, battery conditions (charge, discharge, ambient temp, operating temp)differ from original design, HV battery system and its software intercation, and good old fashioned bugs in the code. Possibly a combination of these, given the time required to deveop a fix.
