I just noticed the Hybrid 0-60 at 7.6-7.8s is almost identical to the V6 Tacoma 0-60.
Great finding, thanks for sharing. And, the list of good reasons for owners of a V6 Tacoma, such as myself, to replace it with the Hybrid Maverick just keeps growing! Thanks again!

I appreciate that your single personal anecdote trumps all the aggregate data. The 2L ecoboost has certainly gotten better in its 2nd iteration and is generally considered pretty reliable, but it still is known for several issues (exhaust manifold, LP fuel pump, turbo failure) and the 2.5L Atkinson is considered pretty darn bulletproof.

No idea what you were trying to get at with your description of what an ICE engine is; I assure you, I don't need the mechanical engineering lesson.
So the 2.0 EB had a couple problems that Ford has worked to correct.

by no means does that make it "while the 2L ecoboost has pretty mediocre reliability."

Yes, you do need a mechanical engineering lesson, the drive motor is an electrical motor, not an engine.

Your welcome.

Some folks here are buying their first truck .
You won’t be sorry. When I got my first pickup years ago-I quickly discovered the delicious freedom of just tossing stuff in the bed without worrying about the trunk carpets. Or God forbid..some kerosene drips on it.
When I take yard waste to the compost dump I get a kick out of watching folks cautiously taking trash cans full of weeds out of their van or suv. Then sweeping the floor.
Trust me..you will love your first truck!

keeping it simple. Super budget-friendly (Avg cost of a new car is 30 to 40k). A small truck that can handle 99% of the stuff that I would need. Hybrid which means it is good for the environment if you are that type of green person and good for the pocketbook if you are that type of green person (green square). Perfect for daily commute, short family trips and nice storage capabilities. it does not shock me this is selling like hot cakes. it may actually out perform not just other companies but car lines within Ford.

Good question, no offense taken. Answer: both. It's the economy of it all. Least expensive outlay, low maintenance, mileage, now mature technology likely to be durable.
I also like the other versions very much, as they are quite capable and add prestige and credibility to the line. It's a Ford truck, what more could you need?

It’s the MPG at this price! The versatility is the big bonus.

Yes. Mpg. I drive over 100 miles a day if I do the minimum. That extra mileage is huge at the end if the
I ask you this, do you need 250 horsepower? Most crossovers have around 180-200hp, and they have ample performance. I currently own an Escape 2.0, and it's fun, the maybe one time I was able to actually use it. 99% of my driving it sits at 1.5k rpm in top gear.

I am trading it in for a Maverick Hybrid, which I think is the true value in the vehicle. A reliable smooth ecvt, instant torque, 42/33 mpg, and extended warranty. I work for a living, and I do my job from the road. It makes a lot of sense for me to have a reliable fuel efficient vehicle.

I would say the one thing it won't do as well would be towing. If you tow constantly, it's probably worth it to get the ecoboost. I plan on maybe towing a small trailer with my hybrid for wood or special trips, but nothing heavy.

From the videos I have seen with off-roading, not that it is "bad" but if I wanted to do that I would get a bronco or bronco sport. I imagine even the base bronco sport with the 3 cyl would outperform the maverick on a trail.
Keep in mind the biggest benefit of the hybrid is for city driving like in the city of Phila. On the hwy I saw 40-41 with the eco boost AWD and I got 27.5 suburb driving.

I currently have a full size truck which I will be keeping to pull my bike trailer and heavier loads. Getting the Maverick to be my daily driver, whenever it comes in. It seems to be a great vehicle for what I want to do with it. A great price and nice looking truck.

I dont drive too much really.

If the ecoboost was the cheaper option I may have gone with that.

Besides being cheaper up front, it will be cheaper to run.

I like the simpler planetary gear transmission.

Also less chance of carbon buildup than GDI.

This fall (where I live) prices are about 1.5x what they were last year at this time. Which means they are a little less than they were in the fall of 2008 and a little more than they were in the fall of 2014. And quite a bit more than they were at other times in the price cycles.

But I'm basing my purchase of a hybrid on current gas prices, not a fear of a huge and lasting future increase. I'll save enough, even at current prices, and I'll burn less fuel.

Plus, I'm optimistic that the world will get back on its feet. And I'm old enough to have seen many predictions of doom come and go.
We should all have been frozen in the coming ice age of a few decades ago. How many gasoline shortages have there been since Laurence of Arabia. Stealing a clever movie line, "I'm too old for any of this, ALWAYS HAVE BEEN."

(y)You must be fun at parties. Two decades of high reliability for 2.5L Atkinson, the 2L ecoboost has improved but there are still pretty common issues. In general, hybrid powertrains have proven to be the most reliable of any powertrain segment, not to mention Ford is offering a longer warranty for the hybrid. I was exactly answering the question posed to me, I don't even know what you are attempting to do.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but another reason to choose a hybrid is because, with a light foot, brake wear is nearly non-existent. Most of the energy lost to heat with brake friction is put back into the battery with regen. Most of the reason why hybrids are more efficient is they recover that kinetic energy, hence better efficiency in stop go (city) traffic.

Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
well the bottom line is its all about saving money with the price of fuel and the economy being what is it.. WHY NOT
