I think comparing multiple plans is the only way to go, just like with car insurance. I want to walk into my dealership with two or three quotes for comparison before I sit down with the F&I folks. If the dealership meets or beats my quotes, I'm more than happy to go with them. (It's also worth noting that this does not appear to be a decision you need to make at that moment anyway.) Same with the car loan and trade-in.Thank you! I just got off the phone with Select Auto Protect (#1 on their list), they offer "bumper-to-bumper" for 5 years after the manufacturer's warranty expires, 100K miles, for $2400-something, $200 deductible. He said he would add one "free" year, which makes it 6 years after expiration.
Granger Ford offers much cheaper deals (note that their coverage starts at the purchase date, so "10 years" means "7 years after manufacturer's warranty ends). So to compare apples-to-apples, here is what you'd get for the same exact term:
