Pre collision assist isn't the same as emergency braking.
The assist charges the brake system to help you brake faster.
Emergency braking is when the vehicle will stop for you.
" If a potential collision is detected, an alert sound is emitted and a warning message displays in the message center. If your response is not sufficient, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake. If you don’t take corrective action and a collision is imminent, brakes can apply automatically. "

Yea I read it and I’ve read the manual before but all it does is describe those features. It doesn’t say which of those or if all of those features come on which models or packages or versions of CP360. I built my mav with CP360 thinking it came with ACC but it didn’t. I’ve gotten into many hairy spots before and it’s never braked for me once so I don’t think I have emergency braking either. And your excerpt from the manual shows there being and option on my dash menu to switch active braking on or off but I don’t have that option in my menu, only to adjust the assist sensitivity. So it’s still very unclear what features I actually have or not.
I'm curious about this too. I have a 2024 XLT with Co Pilot 360. I've had a few situations where the red flashing warning lights kick on, like when I bike flew out in front of me, and it sure didn't feel like the truck was braking on it's own. Each time it happened, I was stomping on the brake pedal. But like others have said, maybe it doesn't happen unless a crash is "imminent" and I haven't really been in that situation yet. It would be nice to know for sure if I have it though, or if the red warning light is the extent of crash avoidance. Someone mentioned driving into a large, empty cardboard box. Maybe I should try that.

The cardboard box is still going mark up the front of the truck.
I wonder if there'd be a way to hang a couple of Black Sheets about 8 ft High a parking lot. Kind of like a PVC frame.
Anchored somehow so that it doesn't tip over then drive towards and under, so that if you do hit it it won't cause any damage and you will know to stop.
Just kind of thinking out loud here.

Similar to this except on a larger scale. Taller wider apart and then hanging some type of non-marring fabric from it

I think I'd feel ok driving into a medium size cardboard box at 20 mph, just to see what happens.

Check the manual page that was quoted in this thread - no need for that fast.

Horrible accident, probably XLT without adaptive cruise control that the 24 lariat has and because of the fire likely is a hybrid

Probably the driver distracted by some screen. And it appeared the flames were mostly coming from the gas tank area, not the battery.

At 66 years old, it could very well have been a medical episode.
I was literally getting ready to state this. Wife's cousin recently passed away in an accident that seems to favor a medical condition caused the accident.

I’m just seeing this now in 2026 while researching Maverick front-end collisions, but I really hope you got a fair outcome from the insurance after such a brutal hit. Seeing a truck folded up like that against a trailer is terrifying, especially with how low the Maverick sits compared to a commercial bumper.

When a big rig did almost the same thing to me, the carrier’s insurance tried to blame my reaction time instead of their driver’s sudden braking. To get through the insurance nightmare and actually get my medical bills sorted, I worked with Dolt, Thompson, Shepherd, Conway & Stanton PSC. He was the only person who actually understood the trauma I was going through while I was trying to get back on my feet.

That's a 2024 thread
