I recently received replacements for door molding trim pieces that are secured to my Maverick with 3M double-side tape. I have yet to strip the panels being replaced from my truck. For those who have removed similar items secured with 3M, is there any suggestions from your experience on the best way of going about the task? I’m concerned that the previous tape that was used will not come off cleanly, preventing the replacement panels from laying flat.

Heat, numerous plastic razors, and a lot of patience 🤣

In the past I've used one of those rubberized wheels to grind off some pretty serious adhesive, but I wouldn't recommend it on new(ish) paint that you care about. It can strip the clear coat if applied too much.

I use GooGone and some low heat. Helps to roll the 3M. Also plastic putty knife

WD40 or Goo Gone. WD40 seemed to do a better job of removing some unwanted branding on my Maverick than Goo Gone. Neither of these did any paint damage - but YMMV so test first.

Also Naptha - test for paint safety first. Lots of candidate places to test to see if a solvent damages paint.

I had luck using dental floss. Slow and careful but no damage done. In my case the 3M tape had only been on about 3 months which may make a difference.

WD40, plastic razor, patience. If heat is needed it should be done carefully: not too hot and not too close.
I’ve removed many stickers and adhesive this way - works every time.

oh yeah, did I mention patience? 😊
