Honestly, the XL is really the best bargain of the lineup.
When I bought my XLT in Cactus Grey they had an XL on the lot but it was in white, and I've driven too many fleet trucks in white to ever buy one.
Like the man said, that's more $$$ for upgrades.
I'm old enough to remember when bare steel wheels looked cheap to me, now it's been so long since I've seen a new vehicle with em it looks retro. And seen a few painted white or black which looks good too.
There's a Maverick out there with steelies painted white and the retro rainbow stripes that makes the Bronco Sport Heritage package look tame.

Maybe a camper top or bigger wheels/tires is a better upgrade for some. I'm happy with my XLT +lux package but some plan to do a lot of mods and want to start with an entry level model.
If the XL came with the sad three cylinder motor that the base & mid level Bronco Sports have, I'd call it a poverty ride. But the cheapest Maverick can have the same drivetrain as a top shelf Lariet, and Ford's already dropped the base Big Bronco so don't be surprised if the XL goes away and Mavericks start at $35k.

I think it's perfect but I'm biased I have a Cactus XL on order But seriously even if money was no concern I would still pick the XL over the higher trims. I think there are a lot of buyers who truly prefer a more basic truck with less not more. To me that's what the Maverick represented and I agree as others have said Ford will probably move away from that with each passing year.

All your truck needs is for you to replace the wheels when the tires wear out. That gives you a year or so to save up, and get something different from standard Ford wheels that will make it pop!
