I replace all my our vehicle fob batteries for me, wife and daughters even year....NY Eve. It's easy and a simple 5 minute job.

Also replace the batteries in all my firearm scopes and red dots the same day, easy less simple 15 minute job.

And of course Smoke alarms get replaced annually as well, less easy and less simple requiring a ladder about an hour on both floors of the house.

So I was at the dealer a month back. just looking at some newer vehicles. Went to unlock door and would not unlock with key. (I have the old flip open regular key). Good, here I am at dealer, easy peezy? uh, no. The parts gal had a battery and put it in for me and while pressing the bejesus out of the cover, she broke a piece off! Said to come back next day as the "contractor" locksmith would make and program me a new key. So he did, the next day. Got down the road the next day, stopped at grocery store and now my lock/unlock range is about 2 feet! Have to stand right next to drivers window. My old key had a range of about 30 feet from truck. Any ideas? Still under warranty. I'm thinking I may not even have an antennae in my key fob. I put in another new battery, no help. Thanks in advance for any help!
If you have the optional remote start system, then that system uses a different receiver in the truck. I'm guessing the key fob needs to be programmed to be sync with the optional long range remote start receiver. BTW these systems communicate with each other when you are within range of the truck without pressing any buttons so the battery needs replacing more often.

Put it on a trickle charger overnight then check state of charge. If that doesn't work out then repeatedly take it back to the dealer until they replace it with an AGM button cell.
Oh wait....wrong battery
When will Ford wakeup and make the fob battery wireless charging so I can just lay it on they charging tray every once in awhile???? (Hummmmm how fat would that fob have to be?).

No remote start. Just the old simple 3 buttons, lock, unlock and a horn(alarm). Might get yet another key off eBay or Amazon and program myself.

Not a bad idea in general, gotta have two keys to program new ones without hitting up a dealer.

Roger that on the two keys. Got my wife's key and tried it out. Her key will lock/unlock at 50 feet plus! Maybe I got a bad key from Ford. Think I will run by there tomorrow and whine a bit. They broke my original that worked just fine, seems they should be responsible to make the new one work as good as my wife's or my old one!

Sounds like a weak battery. Maybe try a fresh battery?

Put a new one in today, Cr2032 and verified 3 volts. No difference on range.
