Chipped paint, rust on a garage kept Maverick Hybrid with only 6000 miles???

I have a 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid that I got in October and has been garage kept. It has been in the snow once and rain twice. It just passed 6000 miles and I have noticed the paint chips VERY easy. EI have found several chips, even on the rims of the tires... I bumped my watch against the door yesterday and it even chipped with that. I also noticed that where the trailer hitch is, it has started rusting all the way around it already!

Sounds like you need paint protection of some kind, have not had the issue myself. Rain, snow, dry etc for over two years. I've done all kind of stuff, like hitting it with my kayak, rubbing the metal part of my belt, rocks on freeway, that I thought would damage the paint, and didn't other than one spot behind the back window where I scraped it with a branch. I also scratched the paint on the receiver with the anti-rattle device, a little rust there that I need to fix. Mind you I had it waxed when new, and maintain it with a ceramic wash. Not as good as a full ceramic wax job, but better than nothing!

Hey Ford, ever hear of "customer satisfaction"? We will gladly pay an extra 10 or 20 bucks for you to add another micron of paint depth! I feel like I have to park my Maverick in the middle of nowhere with safety cones around it for protection whenever I shop.

Lucky. Mine was collecting rock chips from its first month home. Ford paint sucks. (This is my first Ford, but friend’s warned me from their car’s and truck's - I should have PPF’d at day 1.)

This was a potential problem that was posted back when people were taking delivery of the 22’s.
A person who works at a bump shop had equipment for measuring the the depth of the paint. This person noted that the paint on the Maverick was very thin especially the clear cote.
The person said that there could be potential sun damage to the clear cote because it was so thin.
During the same period another person put a Maverick on shop rack to inspect the under carriage. This person stated that there was significant rusting of the exhaust system.
The paint and exhaust could turn into black eyes for Ford. I can’t imagine that Maverick owners would not start suing Ford if they begin seeing large patches of paint flaking off or when the exhaust system fails. When was the last time anything has an exhaust system fail?

I also have a 23 Maverick. 25k on it. I am noticing wear on the paint on the inside of the tailgate edges and chips inside the backseat doors. Doesn’t take much to ding the paint for sure.

I can’t speak to the durability of the paint on my 2024 Maverick, since I’ve only had it for three months, but it looks as good as my wife’s 2024 Lexus.

no, it is absolutely not a Ford problem. modern vehicle paint is terrible, supposedly safer to handle and for the environment. the even bigger issue is that painted plastic - and we have a lot of it, as do all other modern vehicles - will chip easier than painted metal by far.

I've posted pics before of what my '16 Mazda CX-9 looked like after 58k miles, but here you go again. open and zoom, the white on the chrome are water spots, but the black on the silver fascia are many, many, MANY stone chips.

yes to PPF. I didn't care enough about my Maverick, but since my wife will be driving her Bronco 10-20 years, it has PPF on partial hood, front bumper, grille, door handles and cups, leading edge of doors, lower doors, leading edge of fender flares.

It's not exclusively a ford problem. Coming from a 2011 Subaru, I am used to it. Companies will pinch wherever they can. I probably should have went with PPF for the front end at least (there are countless tri-axles loaded with sand on the highway that I commute) but the cost was a fraction of the price of the vehicle and I couldn't justify it. I just learn to live with it, as it is an "economy" daily driver. The thing that bothers me more is how easily the windshield pits.

Coming up on the 1 year anniversary shortly, not a single chip anywhere on the truck. Maybe the EcoBoost gets better paint than the hybrid?

We do? The front bumper, and.... the door handles and side mirrors on Lariat/Lux...

It seems like less painted plastic than any other vehicle I've bought in the past 20 years. I guess it might be more than some trucks, but certainly not as much as a typical car or SUV.

Check to see if you have any chorine/salt products kept in garage. It will off gas or mix with humidity and settle everywhere.
