Reason why Hybrid Maverick interest so high? [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?

I don't drive a lot but mostly suburban so mpg difference will be significant and I find the different tech is interesting . Still haven't made up my mind though as I'm sure the EB is more fun. The hybrid getting AWD and IRS makes it more likely I'll go that route

I ask you this, do you need 250 horsepower? Most crossovers have around 180-200hp, and they have ample performance. I currently own an Escape 2.0, and it's fun, the maybe one time I was able to actually use it. 99% of my driving it sits at 1.5k rpm in top gear.

I am trading it in for a Maverick Hybrid, which I think is the true value in the vehicle. A reliable smooth ecvt, instant torque, 42/33 mpg, and extended warranty. I work for a living, and I do my job from the road. It makes a lot of sense for me to have a reliable fuel efficient vehicle.

I would say the one thing it won't do as well would be towing. If you tow constantly, it's probably worth it to get the ecoboost. I plan on maybe towing a small trailer with my hybrid for wood or special trips, but nothing heavy.

From the videos I have seen with off-roading, not that it is "bad" but if I wanted to do that I would get a bronco or bronco sport. I imagine even the base bronco sport with the 3 cyl would outperform the maverick on a trail.

My interest in the hybrid Maverick was for the fuel mileage. When I first learned of the 40mpg in town I thought "Sign me up!"

But I wanted 4WD or AWD, so ended up with an Ecoboost when I went to order and found out there wasn't an AWD Hybrid version available.

Now there is, but the recalls I have since read about on this site has shaken my confidence enough that I may hold back until I'm satisfied the bugs are worked out.

Whether my fear is realisitc or not, I don't know?

That's one thing I love about hybrids. So much low end torque. Even my little gerbil powered Niro has got some nice low end because of the electric motor.

I ordered my Lariat in late June 2022 (the first month after Ford's Mav-availability announcement). I did so because of the touted high MPG, the small size (I am 74 years old so getting in and out is a factor), and the weekend functionality (loading mulch, a bicycle, hardware/wood, etc).
I disagree about hp being a MAV shortcoming. Unless you are towing, there's plenty of power when needed, especially in Sport mode. The Mav has probably surprised more than one muscle-car driver when accelerating after the traffic light turns green, lol. And I say this as Corvette owner.

Search eCVT on this forum, it'll explain how a CVT and the eCVT in the Maverick are totally different transmissions. An eCVT is simpler, and typically more reliable than a normal geared transmission.

I was worried about it, but I actually did get used to it, and I never thought I would. It's been fine for us on our stock delivery runs, which tend to be 100 miles each way.

The Maverick uses an eCVT not a CVT. Completely different animals. eCVT transmissions are fantastic. CVT transmissions are not good...

I wouldn't say "completely" different. They're both continuously variable. They just use different methods to continuously vary the ratios. Traditional CVTs use a pair of belts stretched between inverted cones. eCVTs use a planetary gearset and are mostly for splitting/combining different power sources (hence their use in some hybrids).

I do agree eCVTs are better. They don't have that rubber-bandy feel that the belt driven CVTs have. My other hybrid has a dual-clutch automated manual though...or is it an automatic? Heh.

They are mechanically 100% different designs. Continuously variable, yes, but completely different in how they achieve it. eCVT is for more robust, more reliable, more enjoyable to drive.

The huge amount of interest in the Ford Maverick hybrid certainly did surprise the marketing people. They were thinking everybody was going to upgrade to the EcoBoost and that carried the premium price. For 2024 they reversed it put the premium price on the hybrid.
