Poll: Lariat Loaded AWD or XLT Lux Front

All excellent points. Greatly appreciate the advice. I’m leaning toward changing the order to Hybrid, XLT with Lux. Factoring taxes, it would save me around 9K from my current build and still have more modern safety features than the GX.

We all have our priorities and I can't tell you which to go but if you keep the Lexus you will still need to deal with fuel, maintenance and insurance costs. Not sure if you need/want to keep the Lexus but if you sell the used car market is hot right now so I would check places like Carvana, Carmax, KBB, etc. and see how they would compare to what the dealer offers you on a trade in.

I ordered XLT hybrid lux in July, then looked at what I was getting with that package and started to change my mind and drop the lux. Glad I did, my priority number went from 10 to 2… The extras I want I will get aftermarket , hoping for February or March delivery

Its probably too early to tell, but soon we should have estimates from experts on what the resale value for different trims will be.

Often with things like an iPad for example, while higher storage models are more expensive, if you factor in resale value where people will find the few year old storage simply insufficient giving the higher storage models more resale, they may not even be more expensive to own after factoring that in. My guess is that XL models will be poorly maintained and abused fleet vehicles for many businesses, and so may return low resale compared to Lariat.

For example, our Ram 1500 is pretty loaded, and as such has certain "must have" features that weren't standard back in 2009 like a backup camera and parking sensors (added a front camera too). We got it for around $30K after haggling, looking at similar trucks easy to get $13K for it with leather heated/ventilated seats and what not, which after 12 years would mean our per month cost was about $118 which is not bad. Even a little Chevy Malibu once you factor in downpayment leases end up being around $215.

tl;dr: Factor in if the added features will make you want to keep the vehicle for 10 years instead of 5 years, and how much more the resale value may be with those loaded up.

I used to live in Colorado. An AWD would have been perfect back then. I live in Middle Georgia now, we have had one bad winter the past 11 years. AWD now would just be an added expense that gives me no benefit.

Actually you get Independent Rear Suspension which most would see as a benefit for better ride. Also, AWD should be more sure footed in nearly all conditions.

Excellent points. I have also considered that. All the extra features and comforts might make me want to keep it a few more years and we all know, the longer we keep them, the less money they typically cost us.

I sold my 20 Ranger for $3300 more that I paid for it after 9 months of ownership so it was an easy decision for me. I just want a smaller truck and if it doesn't work out with the Maverick it will gone too. I am in my mid 70's and figure I am good for another 10+ years of driving enjoyment so I am getting what I want not what I need.

I sold my 20 Ranger for $3300 more that I paid for it after 9 months of ownership so it was an easy decision for me. I just want a smaller truck and if it doesn't work out with the Maverick it will gone too. I am in my mid 70's and figure I am good for another 10+ years of driving enjoyment so I am getting what I want not what I need.

Yeah I would have let it go for an extra 3300 as well. Still a young man with plenty of fun, spirited driving left! Enjoy my friend!

Everyone's situation is different. For me, I am replacing a 2012 F150 Lariat that was stolen. I loved all the features in that truck, and really couldn't talk myself into replacing it with less. I also wanted a smaller pickup this time around as it was a pain having that large of a vehicle when going to Seattle or Portland etc. and it didn't fit in the garage. Never mind the cost to drive. Enter the Maverick. My car sales guy was kind of shocked that I ordered it loaded, but again, I had my reasons. I'm also approaching 50 and this will only be the 4th 'brand new' car I have ever owned. One was a short lived Ford Ranger that I totaled after a couple of weeks, so I figure it's about time to have something new and nice the way I want it. But that's where I am at in life. If I were buying this 10-20 years ago, the XLT Lux would have been plenty.

Hello all. New to the forum, just wanted to get some thoughts. I’ve done a lot of research on the little Maverick and can say with certainty that I will be a fan. I ordered a CG Lariat, AWD, Lux, FX4 a few weeks ago. MSRP around 36k. Even at 36, I feel like, ESPECIALLY in today’s market, it’s a bargain. However, I am having second thoughts on the dropping that kinda cheddar on a vehicle with no real idea on resale value. I have roughly a 90 mile daily commute, 90% Hwy.

So..should I?..

1.) Stick with the current order and trade in my SUPER clean, well maintained, PAID for Lexus GX470?
2.) Change my order to front wheel Ecoboost, XLT Lux and keep my Landcruiser. And save about 8k.

Keep the Landcruiser! Those are super cool vehicles and I know you would regret selling something like that

Well, that is where I don't think you can make a bad choice with the Maverick. If I were to similarly option an F150 it would be a 70k pickup. I will own the top of the line Mav, and have a cheaper vehicle to operate which is better in the city and be able to pay cash for a second new car for less than a similarly optioned F-150!

Personally I doubt we see future model years at these price points. They are offering an awful lot even when adding things that are just 'nice to have' that make this a great buy in my opinion.

I completely agree. Loaded with every option is still the starting price of most other models. I wonder if Ford used the low entry level price to get everyone's attention into a brand new segment of vehicle but will increase the price as popularity and demand continue to grow.

" Sure-footed all-wheel-drive handling." That's the kind of lingo you're likely to hear in car ads and marketing material, and it has prompted me to shout at televisions, print ads, and the occasional car-company rep: All-wheel drive doesn't help handling! "

Sorry, not my intent to start an argument, but I did a lot of research before ordering my FWD and I found nowhere anyone recommending AWD for improved handling purposes. And not that the Maverick was designed as a track-demon.

Now, on the Independent Rear Suspension and better ride, I will not disagree.
