Hello all. New to the forum, just wanted to get some thoughts. I’ve done a lot of research on the little Maverick and can say with certainty that I will be a fan. I ordered a CG Lariat, AWD, Lux, FX4 a few weeks ago. MSRP around 36k. Even at 36, I feel like, ESPECIALLY in today’s market, it’s a bargain. However, I am having second thoughts on the dropping that kinda cheddar on a vehicle with no real idea on resale value. I have roughly a 90 mile daily commute, 90% Hwy.

So..should I?..

1.) Stick with the current order and trade in my SUPER clean, well maintained, PAID for Lexus GX470?
2.) Change my order to front wheel Ecoboost, XLT Lux and keep my Landcruiser. And save about 8k.

Ginger or MaryAnn?

I tend to like lower optioned vehicles. I splurged on my XL and ordered a moonroof for the misses and I figure that will help an XL's resale value if the day comes.

Met a guy a the dealership and he ordered a Lariat, he tells me that it is one of the lower optioned vehicles he has ever ordered.

Thanks for the input. I always buy used with all the bells and whistles and let someone else pay for the frills. This will be my first brand new order. In today’s market and the forecast of things to come, I don’t think we can go wrong with either option.

If you're fine with FWD but cost-conscious why not get the Hybrid? I feel like a 2WD Ecoboost Maverick would be more the odd duck for resale.
Good point. I considered the same. I factored in the fact that I already have a 4X4, my mostly hwy commute, the suspected delays in Hybrid motor and the fact the Ecoboost has loads of more power for only an additional 1K.

I used to live in Colorado. An AWD would have been perfect back then. I live in Middle Georgia now, we have had one bad winter the past 11 years. AWD now would just be an added expense that gives me no benefit.

See, that’s kinda my thought. Especially considering I will likely keep my 04 GX with true 4x4. Kentucky weather is always a toss up but I’ve truly only needed AWD in a handful of situations.

If you're worried about money, look long at dropping the lux pack unless there's something in there you really feel you need. If you just want a practical daily driver the XLT is probably the best choice. IMO the top shelf is rarely worth it for anything but whiskey.

I had a similar internal struggle and opted for a lariat with lux, 4k and Fx4 vs the same but xlt vs playing the waiting game for a hybrid. Price difference would be around 4k for lariat eb vs XLT eb.

This will be my daily driver about 40 miles and I plan on hauling my motorcycle and a couple jet skis/small boat during the summer and figured for 800 a piece the 4k and Fx4 may help the resale and reduce the stress on the system. I went Lariat for the ACC mostly.

Honestly, if you aren't in love with interior on the lariat and aren't high on the ACC the XLT with lux has about 80% of the Lariat package heat seats, wheel, same screen, can be equipped with copilot 360.

One last thought; looking at gas prices and mpg may help the decision as well as the Maverick is rated 29 highway vs 18(?) For the Lexus. That's about 3 vs 4.5 gallons a day or $1125 a year on gas alone assuming $3 a gallon (hoping).

Thanks for the opinion. I’m really digging the brown active x pleather and the copper trim opposed to orange in the Lariat. I know I could save several thousand going with lower trims/options but I expect my ‘22 vehicle to have more bells/whistles than my ‘04 lol.

I feel the same way. Didn't want to step backwards, especially in safety features.

I've been bitten enough by the "what if" and "nice to have" bug before, mostly not of my married-life choosing.
Wife always wanted 3-row seating options for family, etc, so we had minivans and Durangos, and Taurus-X, etc. You know how many times we used the 3rd-row seats?
ZIP, NADA, NEVER.

Now I come at vehicle purchases from different angles.
One, I'm a cheap bastard, never have a lot of cash, penny-pinching, don't like to waste cash on things. I do look a lot at resale value though, knowing some things will bring more coin when I sell.
Two, is it really something I'll USE if I spend the money on it?
Three, is there something I really NEED to spend the money on because I know I'll use it?

So I look at the Mav H and can't do without the cruise control, so the XL is out. Also, those wheels just don't do it for me at all, and no resale value there either.

Looking at the Lariat, I don't really need Leather-like seating surfaces, dual-zone climate, or other things, so that's out.

XLT seems to be a happy medium for me, though I don't need to have either the AWD or FX4 (not that the Hybrid has them anyway), or the CoPilot 360 and Safety options. It's not necessary, nor worth the coin to me, as I'm smart enough to realize I'm driving almost 2 tons of killing machine and can watch the road at all times without problems.

I'm still waffling on the "nice to have" XLT Luxury package with its heated steering wheel, heated seats, USB stuff everywhere, etc. I don't really need that stuff.
I would however very much like to have that package's 8-way powered seats though because I'm 50 and my body likes that extra adjustability and comfort now. Also the trailer hitch receiver on the Luxury package would likely come in handy sometimes.

You should think about what you'll use the truck for, and absolutely can't do without. Your 90 mile commute already has my back aching without power adjustable seats, so that would already sway me to get the Luxury package!

I liked the upgraded interior (fake leather easy to clean coffee Staines) so I choose the Lariat. Also has better resale value as Canadian vehicles tend to start breaking after 5 years.

All excellent points. Greatly appreciate the advice. I’m leaning toward changing the order to Hybrid, XLT with Lux. Factoring taxes, it would save me around 9K from my current build and still have more modern safety features than the GX.

Yeah, that's exactly how I'm leaning too.
For $2,345, the XLT Luxury Package has some pretty good options for the price:
• 8-Way Power Driver AND 6-Way Manual Passenger Seats
• 400W/110V Inverter (Cab Outlet with USB in Rear Console + Bed Outlet)
• Bed Tie Down Locking Rails with 2 Locking Brackets
• Bedliner – Spray-in
• Full-Size Spare Included with the Lux package on HYBRID (no charge)
• Heated Mirror with Body-color Skull Caps
• Heated Seats
• Key Fob with Remote Start
• Leather Wrapped Heated Steering Wheel
• LED Box Lighting
• Trailer Hitch with 4-Pin Connector
• Windshield Wiper De-Icer

That said, I won't be ready to buy for a few more months, and am hoping the 2023 model does Sync 4, as I like the bluetooth capability for Android Auto, even if it costs a bit more.
