Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make the effort to train myself.
Looking at the instrument cluster is easy for me. My last two trucks (F-150s) were column shift automatics and the P R N D L display was in the instrument cluster.
I'm glad Ford kept the display up there, so I don't have to look down to see what position the shifter is in. And it's very easy to find/operate the knob without having to look down.

The whole issue doesn't bother me really. It's just a matter of getting used to.

This is what I like so far:

After 7 months I’m mostly used to the dial. But every once and a while, something weird happens when I try to shift into D; the HVAC fan blower speed cranks up to high. Or, I try to shift it back into Park, and the fan speed turns to Low. :p

I'd trade my adaptive Cruise Cntrl for ventilated front seats & rain sensing wipers in a heartbeat.
I would also LOVE to have one that did not have a loud rattle over the passenger above the headliner.
I have that EXACT SAME rattle. I would tear the area apart, but I'm afraid of setting the air bag off. Seldom a problem on the hiway, but rough city streets make it very noticeable.
Let me know, PLEASE, if you ever find a cure.

My older '17 Escape did some weird HVAC things like being possessed. Turn on the car in the winter and the heat/air was on Icebox setting. All random and different. Now my Mav. does some weird things on Android Auto with the phone. 1 Phone went into B&W mode, 2 it had to be rebooted to connect, 3 I had to call tech support to get it re-activated....all separate issues that weren't happening before connecting with the truck.. I think that I got the Banshee Edition.

really?? I know consider the source I LIKE the shifter I can grab my mate and get fresh with out that stick in the way
But really this one part really sucks??
How about the crummy seats and the lack luster sound (Im parroting numerous posters here)
The Maverick is fine for me Its a vehicle that fits where I am

This all sounds like a topic for complainers to have something to complain about! The shifter is just fine!

Alas, it's been a long, long time ago when they had full -sized vehicles and bench seats.

I like that it goes into park when I turn the engine off if I don't bother to twist the knob.
I dislike that I can't see the little red light on the shifter if sunlight is hitting the knob.
That's my view.
You don’t have to look at the shifter knob to see the position. You can just look at the dashboard.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice the dash PRNDL display until someone pointed it out here. I am whatever the exact opposite of Sherlock Holmes is.

No clue why people don't like. Been using "the knob" in my Escape for 4 years and have no issues with it. Hell of a lot better than on the column. My only bitch is that the drive mode always defaults back to normal when you shut off the car (least on the Escape).. Why can't they just hold the drive mode it was in when you shut the car off (I always use ECO). Grrrrr. FYI... My Maverick finally has a build date.... Week of Sept 2nd... Over a year from the order date of Aug 22, 2023
I don't like the rotary Knob as it is, I would like it if you had to press it down in order to go into park, as I have hit park a few times when making a fast reverse in a busy area which is very annoying.

If I can jump in here, it seemed to me that Optimus was making a joke referencing that they spin the climate control fan speed knob instead of the shifter, then end up with behavior that wasn't what they expected. :sneaky:

I came from driving a manual Fiesta for nearly 10 years, so grabbing for a missing handbrake when I park, not knowing what to do with my hands while speeding up/slowing, and feeling like my left-foot is now a vestigial appendage is the biggest changes. Though weirdly, while I haven't owned a column shifter vehicle in over 20 years, I have borrowed a friend's F-150 that had one. And the first week I had the Maverick, several times I reached up for a non-existent shifter...brain must've been thinking we were in that F-150 and was on autopilot.

My steering wheel is high enough that it often obscures the dash PRNDL display. The other issue is that when I reach for something in a new to me vehicle, I tend to instinctively look at it for an instance to place my hand in the right location. Now, that I've been driving this vehicle, I can automatically feel for the dial. There IS something lost in the feel of a mechanical linkage type shifter but I suppose that they've gone electrical because it can protect the system from accidental damage.

I am a little surprised with the whole shift knob discussion. I've never physically looked to see if I am in the right gear. This is my first knob, and I love it. But why does anyone have to look to see which gear they are in? If you can't do it simply by feel, as someone else said, simply give it a good spin. To reverse 2 clicks back. No need to look. The ONLY complaint I have, and it's not a huge complaint, is the road noise. I was a bit surprised by that. But, even at 32 grand, it's just not that big a deal!
