I have a 2024 Maverick all wheel drive with a 4K towing package. I put a 3000 pounds behind it with a trailer and when I put the truck on any kind of incline my front wheels break loose, but does not seem like the rear wheels DO Not kick in. I took it to the dealership. They jacked up all four wheels and claimed everything was working the way it should be. Does it matter if you have a load behind it? Is there a way to get the dealership to simulate the same thing? Has anybody had any kind of issues like this?

Turn on the screen that shows you the live power distribution to the wheels. Then see what is shows when your tires are breaking loose. This sounds more like a traction control issue and less of an AWD issue.

I'm on my phone, so not easy to explain. Have you read your manual? Because it is in there. Manual is also available online.

Yea just also keep in mind it's FWD until it detects excess spin. It's not going to go into AWD just because you are towing.

Is the issue that you are not getting enough traction on your front wheels? Because then I'd ask what your tongue weight is and how the load is distributed, and also if you have the truck loaded too. Either way, your front wheels should not be "breaking loose" at all.

This is correct. But I should say that mine does the same thing. Seems to be very lazy to engage the rear. It does it and all is fine but I can get some front wheel spin first then it engages. Some but I wouldn’t consider it breaking lose

I’ve towed many times and seem to have this issue😡 I was on a grassy hill almost made it to top and the front wheels would just spin. I stopped and tried all the options slippery/towing/ regular etc. and nothing. You could see the burned out grass from the front wheels but nothing from the rear. Had to back down the hill! Tongue weight is fine truck is level. Had many f150,250 and some rangers through the years and always was able to lock in 4x4 and get it done. Not sure I like this awd.

that's odd. have you looked in the intelligent awd status screen to see the torque split? it should be 50/50 anytime you start from a complete stop. but I actually don't think I've looked in tow mode.

This is why I really wanted the Tremor or even the FX4. I can confirm mine pulls front and rear when towing up steep hills. Also I use the AWD lock to reduce the extra wheel spin the front will get on steep climbs.

As other have said go through the instrument panel menu to find the intelligent AWD screen and watch to see what happens with the rear wheels. Mine even engage in normal modes on pavement just when hard accelerating from a stop. Yours should aswell. If they do not have a passenger record the screen in a low traction condition and take it to the dealership.

Aside from that tongue weight could be an issue. Also I would put it in slippery mode and see what happens. It should work the AWD and cut a bit of power and work the brakes a lil on the spinning tires to send power to the gripping tires. But yeah try all the modes. Tow mode to me sounds like it would probably not engage AWD any more than normal mode.

My AWD screen shows all four wheels with power during any start from stop.

Is yours an FX4 with 4k TOW or just AWD with 4k tow?? The AWD systems apparently operate differently between those configurations.

From my owners manual

And it seems to me that jacking up all four wheels with no load on any of them is not a valid way to diagnose your issue. The AWD system needs to see different loads, spin rates, etc... to do it's job correctly. No real way of simulating the issue without actually reproducing the conditions you're experiencing

And AWD is not intended for off road use,??? Interesting little disclaimer.... I mean I understand it's not for hard core mudding or rock crawling but for goodness sake...

I vote for a bad PTU, you should drain it into a clear glass jar and inspect for debris. Refill with the proper oil naturally.
