I put a nice ding in my tailgate with my trailer. In looking to fix, the quotes are quite high. So I'm wondering if my '24 Lariat tailgate can be replaced by an XL or XLT tailgate. I know I'll have to paint. If they are the same, I'll start the junkyard search.

Should be the same..
Only difference is having the "hybrid" badge or not...

I should think the badge could be removed and replaced if needed, but maybe much less of a hassle to find a tailgate with the correct plate. That would be the only difference I can see.

You might want to check in with the poor souls here who had the unfortunate experience of totaling their Mav. Maybe you can cannibalize.

@wade2442 Have you gotten any paintless dent repair (PDR) quotes?

Like most "Badges/Nameplates" on vehicles. They are of the "Stick-On" adheisve type.
One can find (there have been many threads on this forum) "how-tos' to remove these...
Just a little heat and dential floss.. :D

Finding a replacement should not be that hard. It's Getting a matching color, the will make it a challenge..

Only a quote to repair and paint, and it was over $1000. A new tailgate is much more.
Seemed simply replacing it with a used tailgate made the most sense. I intend to look for a wrecked truck, and swap the tailgate, if I wouldn't be losing a function particular to the Lariat.

Is your paint damaged from the ding? If not it's likely worthwhile to get some PDR quotes.

Unless torn open or really wrinkled , fix the existing.
Will be cheaper right now .
Just be glad you don’t have the gmc flip and fold / desktop edition !
Those are like $ 6 k painted !
Sooooo stupid to have a tailgate worth that much .
No enough reason for the step/ table top flex thingy when 1 bad forklift load can destroy it on a work truck!
