Picked up my Maverick on Friday and looking for a BT dongle for wireless Car Play. Some of the threads here are a few years old and there’s a lot on Amazon. So I’m looking for current results with what you’re using. Consistent connection is more important than finding the cheapest. Also where did you mount yours? Thanks for your recommendations.

I have been using Auto Sky model WUA-4. Very small and works great with iPhone 12. I plug it in the usb port in dash.

Congratulations on getting your new Lariat! I’m in love with mine. I use the CarlinKit 5.0 and have had really a very good experience with it compared to the one I had before in my Kia which was the CarlinKit 3.0 I think. It’s not flawless, but then again even OEM wireless CarPlay systems aren’t perfect.

I’ll get the occasional disconnect while using it (maybe once a month) and occasionally it won’t get recognized by Sync on startup and I have to unplug/plug it in (maybe once a week). Still, I’m VERY happy with it and even with its flaws, it’s MILES better than having to fumble with a wire plugging in my phone every time I get in. I just updated to the newest Sync version a couple weeks ago and since then I haven’t had any issues or disconnects at all. I haven’t tried any other adapters but 8 months in and I’ve had minimal issues with the CarlinKit 5.0

I have mine mounted right beneath the USB plugs on the “roof” of that little nook. I bought some adhesive velcro strips and just stuck it up there. I prefer using the USB 3 port rather than the USB C port since the 3 port is on the bottom and leaves the C port easily accessible. If you plug into the C port it makes it difficult to access the 3 port if that makes any sense.

Good luck with you decision, hope this helped!

Thanks for the suggestions and all of those look solid.

I just checked the spot right below the USB port and that looks like a perfect spot to Velcro the dongle to.

Anymore recommendations?

Thanks, I’m enjoying the Maverick so far on the 150 miles I’ve driven it. It will be my snowmobile for skiing and toy hauler the rest of the time.

One thing I really like about the CarlinKit 5 is when you go into the settings you can choose whether you want it to act as a CarPlay only adapter, android auto only adapter or both and choose automatically based on the phone connected. It’s default setting is being compatible with both, but I noticed a pretty significant reliability improvement once I selected CarPlay only. This might be a feature of other dongles too I’m not sure. As far as I know they’re all run on the same rebranded Chinese software that’s a little tedious to use and adjust settings. But once you get it set right and do some research for what all the settings do it’s a pretty reliable little machine.

I got this one of Amazon and have been very happy with it.

Wireless CarPlay - Wired CarPlay... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BR3JBNQB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I had a CarLinkIt dongle, but it wouldn’t hold a connection and got very frustrating. Not worth the cost. This one’s been pretty rock solid, only occasionally losing the connection and that’s most often a problem with my iPhone. Reboot the phone and it connects right away.

The one I bought is no longer available but this is probably the same thing. Same company. I like that it plugs right in to the port.

AAWireless version 2 should be out in the next month or so. I'm holding out to see if it's better with the option to switch between phones as well as support for Carplay and AA. Right now the og AAwireless is $60, and the motorola MA1 is $50, both good deals.

I have a Pixel phone, but I've heard the AAWireless device works well, now that it also is compatible with IOS.

I second this. Works flawlessly with my OnePlus Android phone and my iPhone 13 mini.
They also have great support and put out firmware updates.

Previously used a Motorola MA1 but moved it to the wife's car(it does Not work with iPhones and doesn't get firmware updates.)
