Someone has probably asked this already however here it goes. Will using a tuner on my Ford Maverick void the factory warranty? Also with as many people in the group what is the better option for a tuner? Cobb or Livernois? Thank you in advance for any information.

I'd say it depends on what goes wrong and how tolerant the dealership is regarding modifications.

Yes, it will void your engine warranty, but they have to prove it. Also, it wont affect you bumper to bumper, like if your power mirrors go bad, they cant say your Livernois tune did it.

If you are concerned with your warranty go JB4, its a lot harder to trace than a unit that actually flashes the ECU.

A warranty cannot be 'voided'. Coverage for a specific claim can be denied at Ford's discretion. A tune detected will almost certainly result in a denied powertrain claim. Ford has to prove nothing. Magnusson-Moss does NOT apply to modifications.

Ok so yes it can void the drivetrain coverage. I’ve only known one person in everyone I know tuned that had an engine failure at 22k on his e85 tuned gt350. Ford still covered the engine. They stated that the time was not the cause but an oiling issues. In fact they mentioned the time looked good by the top of the pistons. That was also a track car m. So 22k of hard miles is something anyway.
Now that is a rare occurrence. As for if you will need it probably not. I have logged well over 1 million miles on my Livernois tunes across ecoboost engines. Everyone has very high mileage. Never once had an issue. That is why choosing the correct tuner is very important. Some are safer than others. Some know what they are doing others somewhat do.
I think Livernois is head and shoulders above the other when it comes to tuning. Mainly they have better software.
But you can also get very good tunes using Cobb. Randy from tunewerks has an impeccable track record also. He formerly worked for montune and created ford warranty safe tunes for them.
Few I could say stay away from.

Just in case you were looking at the JB4 here is my Dragy result. I have drop in K&N air filter, Thermal R&D 3" catback and added Sport Mode with Forscan. Not a record breaker, but really impressed so far with minimal upgrades. Unfortunately I had the A/C on during these two runs and I think it stole some power off the line. I have been getting 5.7's 0-60 normally.

They don't have to prove anything. Don't bother citing Magnuson-Moss.
They hold the power; they deny it and you say prove it, they say we determined it to be the cause.
What are you going to do? Hire a lawyer with related experts to prove your tune didn't cause the issue?
Yea that won't cost a fortune while you don't have a car.

Lol, ok then. If one dealer denies it I go to the next. Every Ford dealer is not out to ruin your day. You think every Ford dealer is a stickler for the rules? There are some dealers who will take care of you warranty issues despite the mods, they get paid more for repairs than trying to deny them.

You seem to have your feathers ruffled.

First, I have not said don't tune your car. In fact, I've tuned every turbo engine car I've ever owned, always pleased with the results, never have had any engine trouble. I've used both flash tunes and JB4. I prefer flash tunes, because they also tune the TCM and provide other functionality. I'm over being worried about hiding the tune.

Magnusson-Moss does not apply to modifications, period. The manufacturer only has to prove it when Magnusson-Moss applies. A tune would never be eligible.

Are there mod/tune freindly dealers? Absolutely. Just go to another dealer if you don't like the answer? Maybe. If modification info has been entered into Oasis, there's little a subsequent friendly dealer can do. Ford corporate already has the data.

Ultimately, you have to be willing to pay to play. I think there is almost no risk of engine damage with a basic tune. Pretty much every case of 'the tune blew my motor' turns out to be 'the JB4 stacked with Livernois on my modified impeller bigger turbo blew my motor'.

Of course it will void your drivetrain warranty. You're putting more pressure on your marginal CV joints for example. Doh!!! If you want different drivetrain curves, get a warranty from the company that is making the modifications, not Ford.

I found this document years ago, every Ford service department has it. Do whatever you like, but with your eyes wide open, not clinging to the false belief the Magnusson-Moss will CYA.
