Yeah cold is a huge problem with EV. You can cut towing expectations in half. Also bitter cold even on a charger you might not get a full charge and it can have a reduced battery life. There are times we get in the 20 below and that's not a wind chill. It's why I opted for a engine block heater on the Maverick. Also with off road limitations because of this article it is another nail in the coffin.

I think in certain situations it can be a win. My situation no way. Also in rural my electric is high. Even with the grid I have now multiple brown outs and frequent power outages.

It's not something I'm even entertaining to get at this time
Norway leads the charge for proportionate electric vehicle sales not just in Europe but the entire world, with more than 80 per cent of the 126,953 new vehicles sold in Norway in 2023 being pure electric.
must not get cold there

Yes that's true but it's not the US or the electrical grid we have. You can pick different countries, Norway is an exception not the norm. Some countries went all out as well but now the news is saying they are discarded everywhere in China.

I don't see Americans jumping on this train. At least they haven't so far. Also many manufacturers are backing off on electric and producing more hybrid.

You started this thread and you can't even show how much seat time you have in an EV? C'mon bro.

I started this thread not because I have time in the seat of an EV. Rather to enlighten those that drive them , to make sure they stay on the road. I also wanted those contemplating an EV to understand another mark against EV.

There are countless articles and videos showing many negatives of an EV. Don't blame the messenger because you happen to drive a EV.

After reading the article I said WOW. Never thought of this so I shared. Similar to news releases of EV catching on fire and fire departments have a hard time putting it out. Garages burnt to the ground from EV. A barge filled with EV burning up.

Articles explaining EV are not that inexpensive as they thought to own. Articles of videos showing the miles to recharge is cut in half when towing a trailer. Articles of the cold reducing the batteries performance. Articles on how expensive it is to replace the battery on EV. Articles on frequently replacing tires on a EV. The list goes on and on. But I never before realized that tow trucks wouldn't touch a EV in a ditch because of liability. This was new for me and I thought others should know.

Do you realize I posted an article. Your post makes no sense. Example, someone posts an article about a bear attacking and mauling a person. In a similar situation your implying someone shouldn't post an article unless you were mauled by a bear. I think your just trolling so I'm done answering your posts on this thread. Have good night.

Actually Europe in general has nearly double the take rate on EVs than we do. There are more and more models available there and with the take rate here it certainly isn't mainly for the US market.

I previously read up on Norway/EV. They keep their batteries topped off in the winter, sort of like ICE folks have been doing here with their fuel tanks for as long as I can remember. EVs run into a severe cold problem when they don't/can't preheat the battery before charging. I don't believe they are smarter than us or have better infrastructure but they do make it work for them.

Nope I don't want one but not going out of my way to save those who do from themselves, still a free country as far as I know. Every gallon they save is one more available to me at a lower demand/price.

Any decent tow driver could recover that Rivian with some traction boards, hell it only weighs 1K more than my old Raptor, probably on par with a Super Duty.

So just like @fossil you have no seat time in an EV. You just read articles about them and bears. NEXT....

Why would an Ecoboost owner go to a Maverick Battery Electric Vehicle Forum (The model doesn't exists yet, but obviously the participants are rather excited about electric tech) to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt?

Dudes, we are reaching a new low on these forums in terms of mutual respect and civil dialogue. This thread needs to be locked down, no good will come of it (I'm an ecoboost owner).

Obviously it's not as easy as that, or it wouldn't have sat in a ditch for months. I never said or told somebody not to buy an EV. Please show me what you are referring to.

I don't know about Norway but Europe has a different electrical grid. I believe it's 220 or 240 they don't usually wire a house or apartment with 120 as we do. They also have higher amps. Majority of Europe also use electric on demand hot water heaters. Not so in the US up here if they do it's usually gas. Matter of fact Home Depot up here won't stock the electric hot water heater, if you want it you have to order it.

Just trying to describe differences.

240 volts requires half the amps as 120V to do the same job so no they do not use higher amps.

I think you'll find the our grid is around 7.2K volts on along the road wooden pole lines with the high tension lines in the 13.2K volt range or higher. That's why there are pole transformers and sub stations.
