Been lurking and reading up on various forums, with a few comments here and there, decided to post progress finally. I picked up this build at my local NCal dealer for my wife mid-April. This is our first truck, we have been using our SUV for picking up odds and ends, and wanted to test out a truck. We were debating between an EV (Model Y, Ioniq 5) and the Maverick hybrid is what we went with finally. Getting 600 miles on a full tank of gas, and feeling good about it.
As I mentioned, this build was customized by someone else, but it had most of the things we wanted (wish it had the rear sliding window + button start - why Ford???). We werent picky about the color, although have to say Azure Grey really looks nice. Wife loves the truck! Oh and dealer had a very small markup, MSRP was somewhere along $33k-ish.
Anyhow, my customizations are purely functional. I am capable of tinkering around a bit, but I hate getting into warranty-void areas. Also, I love to repurpose stuff, or make something out of things I accumulate. I look for items with a good deal and am not afraid to try on non-brand items. Everything starts out as a non-brand item at one point, right? Below are items I added, in close-enough chronological order of picking up the truck:
Exterior
1. Floor mats, bed mat and tonneau: Craigslist purchase. We picked up used Ford 3D all-weather floor mats, Rough Country bed mat and a trifold (non-Ford) hard tonneau cover from someone 20 minutes from where we live. He had sold his Maverick
2. Tailgate damper: Amazon purchase, brand SZRKRLA. Easy addition to add functionality to tailgate. $14
3. Tailgate port covers: I tried using a Delrin sheet that I cut out with velcro but wasn't too impressed. Found some awesome 3D print files on this forum and printed myself a set. I do have the original velcro solution if someone wants it, and I have another 3D print set I made in the same run. Will ship at no cost, you pay for shipping. Black color. $0
4. Tailgate rubber cover: I hated the wide gap between the tailgate and bed that can catch all sorts of crap. I had some leftover EPDM from another project and fashioned myself a nice "scarf" to cover the gap. It folds over nicely when you close the tailgate. $0
5. Door handle covers: Amazon purchase, brand Aunginsy. Decided to add these since the piano black matches the mirrors and looks good. Also figured it would protect the handles from environmental damage.
6. Mudguards: Amazon purchase, brand Vepagoo. Again, nice to have. $27
7. Door handle protectors: Amazon purchase, brand Grafken. Didnt really need these since wife and I keep nails short and didnt need it on SUV, but then I noticed my buddy's brand new SUV that had scratches already so just decided to buy them. $5
8. Antenna delete: Simply unscrewed the RC antenna since we get good reception (we live in the Bay area) and mostly listen to streamed music anyways. $0
Interior:
1. Seat covers: Amazon purchase, brand Mabett. We have dogs that would have dirtied the seats quick (maybe) and having seats we could wipe down was a big plus. I think the grey+white looks great, and they fit perfect. Took an hour to install with some minor husband-wife disagreements (who needs to read instructions, right?) $280
2. Center console trays: Amazon purchase, brand CDEFG. Provides more storage inside, for all of us that arent satisfied! Could have made do w/o this but it helps sort things by adding 2 more layers. $20
3. Wireless Android Auto: Amazon purchase, brand Podofo. Picked up this cheap wireless AA dongle, works flawlessly every single time, no regrets! Would highly recommend this purchase. I velco'ed it under the USB connectors so it isn't visible. $20
4. Dashcam install: Craigslist purchase, brand Aukey DR02. I thought about using the OBD port for power, or maybe routing power from the fuse-box, but ultimately was able to use existing ports. Ran the wire under the dash and plastics. $5
5. Wireless phone charger (Qi) install: I had an older suction phone mount with wireless charging, where the suction piece broke. I had saved the phone clamp. I took it apart and installed the wireless charging coil under the orange rubber mat. It charges my phone just fine. Wife was super impressed! $0
6. Rear seat mat: Amazon purchase, brand CYHGGUO. Got this so I can cover the seats to catch dog fluff. It comes with a hard base so seat width is extended for dogs to stand on. $60
7. Windshield sun protector: Amazon purchase, brand D-Lumina. We get loads of sun here, so this was a good purchase. It fits the Mave windshield perfectly. $12
Rejects:
1. Window rain guards: Amazon purchase, brand LETINGFAR. Tried them on but they looked cheap and silly and I couldnt figure out what real purpose they serve so returned them. $37
2. Door sill protector: Amazon purchase, brand . This was a total waste, do not buy!
3. Tailgate bike pad: Amazon purchase, brand VEVOR. Decided to not use this since will be getting hitch rack for bikes. Nothing wrong with product, decent price too. $50
Wanted:
1. Soft topper: Thinking of getting one from softtopper or fasttop so I could give the doggies more room. They kinda get cramped in the back seat, plus if we have company, would like the space back
2. Homelink mirror install:
3. Hitch bike rack:
What more have you realized is is absolutely a must for your Mavericks?
