So I've been having some issues with the USB C cable I use for Android Auto. I did a little research and found a very highly rated cable for AA and purchased it. However when I plugged in my phone it did nothing, not even charge. So my friend tried her iPhone, nothing.

Contacted amazon and was sent an identical cable. Same issue. Plug in my old cable and it works.

Does this USB C port not support 240W cables? It makes no sense.

Any USB C cable recommendations for use in the Maverick with an android phone?

It doesn't fast charge, but I don't have trouble using Anker cables. My Samsung uses the USB-C port, my wife's iPhone uses the USB-A.

The owner's manual says:
"We recommend using only USB-IF
certified cables and adapters."

I don't even now what that means.

the pins are the same, that's the purpose of a standard. it must be that the cable simply has larger gauge, higher copper percent, or in some similar way the ability to pass more current.

that's it.

some information is missing in your first post, though. bold highlight leads to questions:

what problems have you been experiencing?

what specific cable did you buy and try? Link to it, and the original cable also.

what about the cable your phone came with? if it's apple with USB-C, are either of these cables apple branded, and if not have you tried one?

I don't think any USB adapter supplies 240 watts. Apples largest one is 30w.

Sounds like crap aftermarket cables. Sometimes you have to shop around and I can't count how many times I had to chuck brand new cables because they simply didn't work.

Android Auto and cords are not best friends. Wireless AA adapter and 110v for charging is the only correct answer.

Apple actually does have a 240W one. Though we're talking about Android Auto, so I'm not sure why folks keep bringing up Apple.

But 240 watt stuff is pretty new, and really didn't exist beyond engineering samples when the Maverick came out. It's DEFINITELY not required for Android Auto, and OP's phone may not even support the cable.

I'm sure there's a solution for you and it sounds like the cable is the problem.
I have never used the truck USB-C ports, mostly because I have a drawer full of A-to-C cables and didn't want to buy a C-to-C cable. When I added AkroHD's mod to the display cubby, I installed the dual-USB A power module to charge our phones and plugged the wireless adapter into the truck's USB A port. No signal quality issues that I can tell, and I like not having to be plugged in when I'm going for a drive.

Troubleshooting steps:
* does the new USB-C cable itself work with the phone on a another power adapter (i.e. in the house)?
* does the USB-A port in the truck work?
* what is the "old cable" that works? is it USB-C? if so, why did you want to change it out?

There is no need for anything close to 240 watts. The truck won't deliver anything near that, and the phone might take 30w at best. I am wondering if you have a blown fuse or other glitch in the truck, because USB-C cables are just not that complicated. Even the cheapest Chinese brand you find on Amazon has a pretty good chance of delivering data, much less the kind of power a phone might need.

These were belkin and rated the best cable by android authority or some such site. Recommended because of the superfast transfer.

I've been wanting to try wireless. There's one that can handle both android and apple but i'm kinda waiting to read more reviews.

In regards to why not use the usb a, well I have a little drive that holds all my music in that slot... which is an absolute nightmare to use with the cheap head unit.

USB cables are a total toss up. Pair it with most companies not even including the necessary charging adapter for the phone you have and it's just a mess. Personally, I've given up trying to figure out which adapter does what and which cable is capable of what too. As long as I don't get an annoying message while charging, I don't care what speed it charges at.

IMHO, wireless is also a PITA. If it's not positioned exactly right, it doesn't charge. That, and instead of just the phone heating up, so does the charger. No thanks to that mess. Plus, I like my phone mounted on the dash. I've tried some proprietary setups like a case specific to a mount that accomplish the wireless charging but it's all just a PITA.

Since it's obvious it's an issue with the wattage... does anyone know the specs of the maverick's usb c? Whats the max it can handle?

I too share the same issues with charging a phone while in a vehicle. Cables, wireless, plug it in, make an extention, get an "L" shaped jack, 15ohms, 2500ohms, white cable, thick cable, manufacturer's specified cable.......the list I have tried is endless.

I did my share of "wireless" setups in my car and either the phone would shut off due to the sun hitting it just right while driving or it would just shut off due to the heat being generated. My solution? I fully charge my phone before a long drive and I carry one of those portable chargers and plug it in separately as needed.
