1) My Lariat Hybrid should be delivered this week!
2) I did research tonneau covers here but went with the less popular HF650M Leer
3) I bought online from Truck Bed Solutions because they had the best price
4) I did search on tailgate seals here but found only 1 thread with no responses

Ok, preamble done. I got the tonneau way ahead of the truck, was hoping to have the truck for a Memorial weekend trip to show it off and have extra hands to install the cover. So it's still in the shipping box in the garage waiting more patiently than me.

This weekend while I was away a package arrived from DSI Automotive Products, no explanation, no email warning, nada. Opened it to find a Trailseal - Tailgate Gasket. Took me a few minutes reading the invoice to figure out that Truck Bed Solutions had ordered and paid for it, as I said zero notice to me. Nice? And while not terribly expensive, $21 for the gasket, they ponied up $20 freight and $.82 CC surcharge!

I'm guessing just excellent customer service? I re-read the mytruckbedsolutions.com page for the HF650M I bought and don't see anything about an extra seal. Leer direct and other sources price the tonneau at $1,175, I paid $1,114 ($20 discount from their list of $1,134). Why they threw in a gasket two weeks after the sale/delivery is a mystery.

So, here I am asking: Has anyone installed such a gasket? Does it help with water leaks? And has anyone received a similar mystery gift. Their order was just 5 days ago, I don't see any sign of them re-charging me, but I guess that could happen as well.

TIA for feedback

Received HF650M Leer a week ago and installed it. Love it. Fantastic bed cover - rugged and classy. Got a note from Jay saying they send out complementary tail gate seals as a thank you. Have not seen seals yet but expecting soon. Like most covers, install instructions are incomplete in some parts. Did figure it out and install went smoothly. Let me know if you need tips.

Thanks, mystery solved too. I only grab my mail once a week or so. Just opened a hand written & addressed thank you card from Jay Ruther Owner/Sales saying exactly that, a free tailgate seal in the mail. Worth a referral:

Tailgate seals don't work too well on the Maverick. I just faked an install yesterday. Nothing meets up like a regular tail gate. Gaps are way too big. I can show you what I did. Not sure how well it will work long run

If I had it to do over, I would skip the side piece on the inside at the side. (Photo 1) and just put a long piece the whole length of the side of the tailgate. (Photo 2)
Also, the piece across the bottom doesnt stick well because there is a little lip. Should have moved it up a little, or down a little.

This is how I ran my tailgate seal.
I do get a little water at the tailgate corners when I wash my truck.
The latch area is hard to seal.

I take delivery on mine next week. I went with the WeatherTech cover (sitting in my garage). I ordered the weatherstripping from Ford using FordPass points and the dealer will install before delivery. I decided to add the weatherstripping because of the gaps I saw in the Mav’s I saw on the lot.

In my opinion it will keep the dust away from the inside of the truck. That’s mostly an issue driving on gravel roads.
As far as your cover goes the only issue is making sure that you are not to far one way or another to prevent leaks.
The only time any water comes into the bed of mine is at the car wash. I had to remove my cover once and I thought I had it in the right spot based on the witness marks however I think I have slightly to close to the tailgate.
I have the Ford cover on mine which is most likely a leer cover with a different name stamped on it.
I hope that you enjoy your truck. If you have the hybrid you will enjoy waving at the gas stations you used to frequent as you drive by.

It's a trial & error process figuring where to put the tail gate seals~~~ is your cover the Leer product or a Truxedo Sentry CT? Do you have water leaks at the front corners? If not, how did you solve that dilemma?

Century CT. Just installed it. Don't know about leaks yet.
There was a tiny bit of water after washing with the hose. Mostly at the back and that was before my attempt at the tailgate seal. I don't really count that because rain doesn't squirt sideways at high pressure.

I have the Sentry CT, and have leaks at front corners; I've filled that gap with black silicone putty on the bedrail that is about 7 inches behind the cab~~~ can't figure out where the leak is; if you have any leaks and figure out a solution, let me know, thanks
