What will the power train be? I can't imagine too many truck people leaning towards a 3 cyl under the hood, I'm concerned about the acceleration of the courier engine at 162HP and 144HP, but I also doubt ford would put the BS badlands 2.0 for a price point much lower than the ranger...any guesses?

Id think they would go with the Bronco Sport/Escape setup:

1.5-liter three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque & hopefully they will offer the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.

Eventually a hybrid/electric maybe?

If the rumor of starting point under $20K it will be lower & maybe the fully optioned will get the 2.0 & then cross over that starting Ranger price point.

1.5 EB for a base model FWD/AWD could keep the price point down, but at what cost to towing capacity? Ford is very strong in Payload and Towing Capacity for their pickups... so maybe the 2.0 EB comes in as a higher power option for some pulling power and sportier packages (dare I dream of a Grabber package that adds performance and style)..

Just the opinion of the new guy..

I agree. I’d assume the top of the line fully optioned will have the 2.0. Would be a big selling point with weekend outdoors groups (avt/utv/small boat/mini camper).

This is most likely the case. This truck will not likely be able to tow much. To be honest, I'm not too concerned about towing with this truck. As long as it can tow about 3-4k pounds with the 2.0, that should suffice.

It's possible they go the Ranger route and only offer a single powertrain. Being at altitude I'd be happy to see anything with a turbo...

Possible, but man I hope not. With all the shared parts with the Escape & Bronco Sport it would be crazy to not offer the two. I get the lower models will have the lesser, but the top models should have the 2.0. I’m also thinking people are underestimating that this thing will be a hit with the mini truck crowd. I think between them & the Bronco Sport crowd the aftermarket options for engine upgrades will be there as well. Just my opinion.

I'm with you. I'd love options. Just seems that with Ford's interesting financial situation they're likely going to need to streamline production as much as possible.

Even more so if they botch the F150 launch or end up with substantial recalls.

I think a lot of it will hinge on the popularity of whatever they release at first. I hope both options, but if only the 1.5 it will be interesting. I know the small truck people/commercial will buy not caring. Then their are the rest of us that want the 2.0. If they don't release that at first will we buy? Again I'm hoping the popularity the Bronco Sport versions with the 2.0 are seeing will be that push to add it to the Maverick lineup. Don't even get me started on the G.O.A.T. mode. I'm their fully optioned buyer just waiting for them to bring it to the lot. Give me the 4 door, 2.0, G.O.A.T. mode, power everything model.

I would enjoy a Hybrid powertrain, similar to what's in my wife's 2020 Escape. And since it is in the Escape, it should most likely be able to go in the Bronco Sport and Maverick, since they're all based on the same platform. A little truck, with AWD, can tow our teardrop camper, fit my fatbike and random home improvement items in the bed, AND come in a hybrid where I could get upwards of 40mpg would be amazing!
So its pretty good in the Escape. I have a friend that has an Escape & like sit, but its only gas. I agree & will help get them in favor with the government regulations. The idea of a commercial fleet of hybrid vehicles would also boost those numbers & allow companies to get kick backs im sure.

A 3-cyl turbo mated to a hybrid powertrain would be quite slick and have a lot of torque. If it can tow 5000 pounds I'd be impressed.

I have been poking around Ford's C2 scaleable architecture platform for sub compact, compact and midsize applications. It appears the Lincoln Corsair (Escape sized) version of their luxury counterpart offers the 2.3T as an option above the 2.0T. I'm dreaming, but that 2.3T would be awesome option on a higher trim level Maverick. It's probably too close to Ranger at that point. Anything with an open bed that Ford produces appears to not be able to even share such components with the next segment up. If it were traditional styled CUV/SUV, all is fair game to have overlap of engines offered in both segments, so it seems from recent history. Who is going to be the first to swap out their 2.0T for a 2.3T assuming the 2.0T is even offered, of course?

Edit: In addition, I was surprised to read the 1.5T (Dragon) engine utilizes both port and direct injection, unlike the 2.0T and 2.3T engines. Curious if Ford updates those two again for similar configuration.

I think Ford will put a 1.5L inline-3 and a 2.0L inline-4 in the Maverick like the Bronco Sport. We already know there's going to be a hybrid, likely the 2.5 from the Escape. If they're going to have any chance of building a sub-20K pickup, a turbocharged engine will not do it. So probably a NA four-cylinder of some sort, maybe 2.5L (I'm guessing). Transmission-wise, there's obviously going to be an 8spd auto/CVT, but please Ford offer a manual as well!
Not posting for politics, but for the idea that since Ford no longer makes cars [except Mustang] in the US would an electric Marverick made in Mexico fall under this criteria?

Not a chance. Given how expensive EVs get and how the C2 platform isn't ment to support a pure-electric powertrain, it probably won't happen.
