Anyone one else in Texas order their Maverick from Chapman in Horsham PA? If so, have you found any decently priced shipping options? Might be cheaper to just fly over and drive back! Curious to know what anyone else is planning to do?
Thanks

I used to live in the neighborhood for a good while, right across the river in NJ. In fact I even bought a car from Chapman Ford about 10yrs ago. Moved back to TX where I’m from a few yrs ago, and had looked into this as I had an extra car to get down here. Cheapest was a little over $1k from there to Houston area. Fuel prices are back where they were then if not a little higher, and with the rest of the madness, I don’t see it being any cheaper right now. I finally decided I was just going to fly back up and make the drive again, but then ended up just selling it instead.

Anyhow it’s an easy drive if you decide on that. Philly rush hour is pretty much all you have to avoid as you can stay mostly west of the Baltimore/DC/ northern VA metro that’s pretty much always a pain to get thru. Easy 2 day drive staying somewhere around lower TN, and even doable in 1 straight shot if you’re not big into stopping all the time and can hack close to 20hrs (depending where in TX of course…prob not so much the farther west you get). I’ve made the drive several times and done it both ways.

Don't forget that in Texas you're getting the value of your trade-in reduced from the new purchase price for your 6.25% tax rate. So if you buy a $22K Maverick XL and trade a $14K Ram 1500, $500 in tax instead of ~$1400, a $900 savings. Now add $1K of shipping, you're approaching $2K, and there's more risk involved because you can't just inspect the vehicle and see it has some quality issues and walk-away.

I thought about it, but it didn't make sense IMO.

This is pretty much my plan. Flying up from Arkansas to PA and driving it back. I used to drive up to Vermont and back every year going through Harrisburg so I've made practically that drive about 10 times already. Not a terrible drive.

The tax situation is a great point but my cheap/stupid ass is thinking of driving there, trading in my vehicle, and driving back (maybe taking a slightly different route).

Would I still get the tax savings if I traded in there?

No clue, but now you have to think of all the gas and effort to get up there and what if they low ball you on your trade? Huge risk, unless you then have enough time to use Carvana or something as a fallback, but then same thing for sure you don't get tax benefit because as far as I know the old car has to be trade-in for new for that to apply.

I do have a Carmax quote for exactly what I paid for it at the moment but yes in that case the financial benefit is totally lost. The good thing about Carmax is they honor it for 7 days nationwide (assuming they overlook the 1k mileage difference 😛) and I can use it as leverage. Plus they’ll love our rust free Texas cars up there I hope.

Personally, the reason I’m considering it is to road trip two cars that I love rather than to save money, as at the end of the day I expect to end up about even before taxes are included. With the tax saving though it starts to make a lot more financial sense.

I live near Chapman, retired so gave lots of time. I'll drive it down for you, no charge except for gas.

I ordered from Chapman. 4% off. Pay them $400 to do it all and it's going to Planet Ford in Dallas. They want $250 and I have a 25 minute drive home to Frisco. No need to pay to fly and drive all that way. The math doesn't work out for me.

Whenever it is that my truck is built.

Sell your car on your own. Don't give up the trade in money to the dealer. That math makes total sense to me.

Selling my car on my own is the option I'm going with. I had emailed Ed at Chapman about the shipping and he said he didn't do that? So, do I need to contact Planet Ford to setup delivery? I live in Lubbock and wouldn't mind the drive to pick it up!

I'm interested to know as well. Thinking about having it shipped to a local Ford dealer and pick up from them. Saving me time and money from flying and driving back. 12 hours plus drive.

Search on how to set up a Courtesy Delivery. I called the Fleet Manager, he gave me details and referred me to the contact in Dallas at his dealership to get it done.

I tried multiple dealerships and the fleet managers were not attentive until this guy so keep searching. You can find it. I figure a flight, hotel, mileage, gas, time ......that's worth the extra bucks to have it delivered.

I live in Houston and ordered from Chapman when they had their 4% below invoice and courtesy delivery with Planet Ford Dallas. I ran numbers to fly and pick it up and it did not make any sense considering the time I'd be wasting + mileage + gas. I got a couple shipping quotes and it was in the $1750 neighborhood. When my truck arrives, I'll just do a short drive/flight to Dallas and be home the same day.

Fly to Love, Planet Ford is stones through away! Bet the dealer would even pick you up or it's a damn cheap Uber!. Good luck!
