Page 369 of the 2023 Manual notes Hybrid Mavericks require full synthetic oil. I had commented in response to a Facebook post, and someone replied (with zero reference) that Ford had recently approved Synthetic Blend now...and the manual just isn't updated.

I question the truth of a statement without any link to the "Ford approval". Is this BS or fact?

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but why would someone want to use the blend rather than full-syn engine oil?

I was told by service department at Ford dealer that you could use blend to save money since a full synthetic oil change is over $120 In Lubbock Texas area now and regular is just under $80.

?? I would use full synthetic. Price is not much different unless you are paying Ford markup prices. I do my own changes and just keep a record on the Ford app for my 3 year warranty periodbut my oil changes are probably $35-40 using their filters (case bought from Rockauto) and top synthetic oil....Mobil 1, Castro etc.

I would not. I think I told my service writer that I wanted full synthetic about three times at my first service.

Someone on FB had posted that their dealer gave them Synthetic Blend and I posted the page in the manual that states FULL Synthetic is to be used for the Hybrid.

As usual, someone wanted to argue that they were smarter and that they knew Ford had issued a bulletin telling people synthetic blend was now authorized and the manual was outdated.

But, of course, it was facebook so the person declined to post verification of this new bulletin when I asked. I'd like to verify the truth. I know we have a few folks here like @KevCuRaoi who KNOW the facts.

My Full Synthetic service in Gillette, WY was $98.40 less a $10 coupon. Actually paid with 17,680 fordpoints.

It's my understanding that 0W-20 is only available in a full synthetic. I've personally never seen that viscosity in a blend...
That's why the guy's comment made no sense to me, but I didn't want to call him out unless I knew the fact about the mysterious Ford "bulletin".

Good for you. We all need to try our best to make a "kinder, gentler" internet (where everyone's a critic of sorts).

If it's on the internet it must be true!

seriously, this makes zero sense. The oil change timer built in the truck as an example. No doubt it's been programmed for full syn.
Sounds like that guy's dealer didn't have the correct oil and did the change anyway, then told him it's approved.
Oh please...

I just like to post a source when making a proclamation of sorts...and I really hate it when someone ignorant posts something that their wife's boyfriend said, without any validation. If you tell me the manual is "out of date", then please tell me what is "IN date". Dunno how many people will listen to this guy's advice that "Ford says it is ok".

Believe or not, this topic was beaten to death in PriusChat.com for over 7 years. Charts, graphs, owner's manual information, tests from Oil companies, you name it, it has been discussed and disected to the finest detail. All to prove what oil was the correct one for a hybrid. I never really saw an agreed consenses. It is a healthly discussion. Maybe something new will happen here?

A blend is only a little cheaper but I have heard it's mostly mineral oil so is really a bit of a ripoff
