Hi All,

My '24 XL Hybrid is on a rail car headed to Detroit, and I hope to have my truck in my garage in a couple weeks. I'm so excited to finally have a pick-up again as I'm a big diy home repair person as well as motocrosser. I plan to use the truck mostly for hauling building materials and dirt bikes, but I'll probably also get a light foldable trailer from Harbor Frieght for longer weekend trail riding trips and bigger home jobs.

Well, stupid me, I didn't get the trailer hitch option (I actually asked for no options at all). I'm regretting that. I've already tried reaching out to my salesman to see if there's any flexibility from Ford to install it after the fact for a decent price because when I ordered it, they didn't have accurate pricing. I'm not holding my breath though. Any advice on the best/cheapest route for a hitch? Also, I see that the XLT package offered more attachment points in the bed. Does that mean the XL has none? I think all I'll need is the 2 up near the front.

2 other things I was hoping to add to this truck was the keyless entry keypad and a bed liner. I have a friend at work that was able to find someone on Facebook selling a factory bedliner out of his new truck because he was going to have it sprayed. I've been looking but no luck so far. Has anyone bought a keypad that is integrated into the window trim like the factory unit and been able to program it on their own?

On the keypad, the only option is a stick-on one with a battery and while it's technically possible to program it yourself, it's difficult and more expensive than most dealerships charge to do it.

You really should’ve opted $100 for that hitch, I’m not sure the dealership would be worth the price (they have to buy all ford parts & labor $$$). There’s a few threads here on the forums to search. Good luck

I’m under the impression the factory hitch is welded in,not bolted.

My factory hitch is welded on.

If there is any way you can spring for SIBL, spray-in bedliner, do it. My first Mav didn't have it so I showed a Line-X dealer that Ford charges $495 when ordered as an option and he met that price for cash. Rhino Lining is fine too. I've had both.

Not an issue for me in SoCal but note that the Mav's bed has a small space between the horizonal bed and the sides the entire 4.5' length of the bed. This allows moisture to get into the bed from wet roads. There are also 11 factory holes for drainage in the bed behind the cab.

SIBL has a lot of advantages including not holding moisture between the bed and a plastic liner. It also provides sound deadening like undercoating.

My second Mav has factory SIBL and I used black 3M automotive seam caulk along the sides of the bed to prevent debris from filling the space between the bed and sides.

I used points to buy my hitch. I don't remember how much extra I had to pay, but it wasn't much. I did have a lot of points though, as I'd bought 2 Mavericks in a year, plus got the Ford Visa. I've managed to get a good bit with little outlay in cash. My dealer recommended a local business to do the install, so I went there. Cheaper than the dealer by a large margin, plus got a veteran discount. The local business charged me I think $125. According to the current prices on Ford, install of the wiring harness is $264, and the hitch is $156, so I saved a bundle

For what it's worth, and I'm sure prices vary based on location, but this is what my local U-Haul charges, parts and labor
Installation Package
Product Subtotal: $354.90
Cost of Installation: $180.00
Tax: $50.05
Total: $584.95

Welcome! As others have said some of those cheap factory options are well worth it. Get your dealer or another one to install the keypad if you plan on using it for things like locking your phone and keys in the vehicle, or for having someone get something out of it while you aren't around. You should be able to find a spray in bedliner shop to do that for not much more than what ford charges.

The hitch is gonna be trickier and costlier. There should be some bolt on options by now, its also worth getting a quote from a good uhaul shop as they will wire up lights and stuff for you. I know on my mother inlaws Ecosport they quoted me $500 for hitch and wiring. But that is maui price so knock off 25-40%.

Good luck, dont regret stuff and enjoy your truck.

Hello,
I bought my XL that I found on the lot and did not have a lot of options either. I needed a hitch so I got one installed at local trailer hitch place and it was $450 for the Curt hitch, Curt wiring harness and installation. The good think about it not being factory is when i have my rear strip light plugged into the 4 flat it does not disable the co pilot 360 options which I believe the factory wiring harness does. Call around for the best price is my recommendation. And Like others have said enjoy your truck it is such an awesome vehicle.

hated my drop-in bed liner in my Ranger....water always getting underneath it. SIBL so much better. Trailer hitch from Ford after the fact it much more expensive...I'd go to a trailer retailer or U-Haul for a trailer hitch...Ford's is around $300 after the fact hitch installed.

To be honest the trailer hitch should come standard on the Maverick as it’s just a $100 option. That and the 400 watt inverter were the only options I added onto my xlt.
