I had a 2023 Toyota RAV4 awd on vacation last summer averaged 37 mpg non hybrid. Trip from Nashville to Vicksburg was 41.5 mpg. Was very happy with the miles per gallon I got with a non-hybrid.

Other than the additional cost do you just not like hybrids?

i think they should discontinue the pickup bed and make the vehicle out of recycled plastic soda bottles, no motor or transmission, and make it look like a 1961 Falcon, When you put quarters in a coin box attached to the side, it moves up and down...

Toyota formula, detuned low performance NA ICE that lasts forever. They never quite got the MPG part down pat without hybrid though.
That's basically the 2.5 to a T. It's already very under stressed in the hybrid. It's a 2.5 that makes 160 hp or so on it's own.

The 2.5 hybrid is already very reliable as it is. I just don't see the point, additional engineer, design, and manufacturing work that requires millions of dollars just to be left with a worst product that sells with lower profit margins than the current hybrid.

I don't know. My son has an old Fusion with that engine and it is a dog. No torque, no fun.

The electric motors in hybrids can help both NA and turbo engines because they fill in the lapses in torque while the gasping I-4 gets into its powerband or the turbo spools up.

Just my opinion, but I think they nailed the target market with what they offer, and probably even did the right thing by making the hybrid the "upgrade" for those who showed up just for that.

What Ford really ought to do is get their hybrid software (especially related to battery management) under control while they still have a happy customer base.
You are spot on. With that last statement. I have my first 2500 miles on mine and compared to the Prius from 5 years ago (which is the drivetrain this is copied from) I love it but it’s clearly a work in progress.

Price. A regular 2.5 with the 8 speed could be the XL powertrain. Perfect for local fleets.
But there is already nothing out their for Fleet buyers that is cheaper than the Maverick as it is... So why cheapen it further? And for low profit Fleet buyers at that...

IDK, both transmissions seem decent, but the e-cvt appears to be the more stout transmission between the two.
I think I remember Sarah N Tuned saying in her Mav Tremor review that the 8spd is the weak point, it's not rated to handle the peak torque from the EB engine.

I mean, I'm sure if you leave it stock, it'll be fine. But these guys tuning their Mavs and doing hard acceleration pulls and drag races are almost certainly gonna have transmission issues in a few years.

Some fleets might not want the perceived reliability issues of a turbo engine or a hybrid/cvt

That’s why I said get rid of the Atkin cycle which reduces horsepower, but increases miles per gallon. You should be able to get 185 hp of that engine.

My Maverick is a hybrid. But I paid less than $25,000 out the door. When I order my maverick price was under 20,000+ shipping and handling. My insurance in the last year has almost doubled. I have no complaints with hybrids just trying to get back to the basic low-cost vehicle. I have a fleet vehicles hybrids are hard to get a hold of. And most have the 2.0 L turbo. Turbo gets an average of 26 miles per gallon vs a non-turbo 2.5 L that might get 30 miles per gallon. And if the vehicle is a little slower that will lower the cost of insurance and Let’s be honest most employees who drive fleet vehicles drive them like they stole them.

What year Fusion, I had a 2009 2.3l it had 160 hp. Yes it was not as fast as my 1990 Mustang 5.0 5 speed. But it was mid 7 second 0-60. 2010 Fusion grew to 2.5l and 175 hp. This is the same basic engine with a lower compression Atkins cycle engine. In 2024 we should be able to get at least 185 hp out of a 2.5 L. Reliability with the 2.5 L includes port injection versus direct injection in the 2.0 L turbo. Again, just trying to find a way to lower the cost of a basic maverick and increase reliable and meet the 2.5 hybrid somewhere in between the 2 L turbo.
