Also had a Nissan the year it switched from datsun. 1983.5
I also had a shiny copper penny colored 83.5 Nissan/Datsun. I remember it was even badged as such. I loved that little truck. I also had one of the early RAM branded mini trucks, and still drive my old 2002 Ranger 4.0l V6.

1984 Red S-10, had a 1.9L Isuzu engine with 82 BHP and 101 lb ft of torque. 4-sp manual, I remember driving it from Chicago to NC through the Smokey Mtns and having to pull over every so often to prevent it from overheating. I don't think it had an option on it. It was the first of 3 S-10's I would eventually own.

I had a ‘91 Nissan King Cab. Cheap, but man, what tinny little piece of junk. The ‘02 Ranger that replaced it was a huge upgrade.— even with the manual windows!

Although this is more recent than the 80s, I felt that it carried forward the tradition a bit.

I wanted a small efficient semi-modern truck which didn't exist. Before I had my Mav, this is what I built from a 4-door 2006 VW Jetta TDI using a Smyth truck conversion kit.

My Mav feels large compared to it.

I miss my Jetta UTE. On the highway I'd hit as high as 47mpg with it. Was really enjoyable to build, like those glue-together plastic model cars from when we were kids. But scaled up a bit. For anyone interested in that build process, you can take a look at my Google photos album here. The company offers the kit for quite a few vehicles (Jeep Cherokee, Audi A4/S4, Dodge Charger, new Beetle, Jetta/Golf, Subaru Impreza).

I don't have any photos but my first "car" was a truck, 1988 Ranger.
Had a few since then, including an '86 Toyota Pickup 4x4, a purple Sonoma and an '01 Ranger.
I always had car projects on the go so I never had the money to modify them, they were just utility trucks but I sure do miss the 86 Toyota.

Wish I had photos of all my old trucks. Over the years I had 2 Mazda’s (B2000 & B2200, both pre ranger). Also had 2 S10’s and all 4 were manuals…miss those days

First mini was a beige 1970 Datsun that I drove off the showroom floor for a total of $2000 including tax an license. Then upgrade to a blue 1972 Datsun for $2200. Both carried a self contained cabover camper all over the country.
Finally ended up with a 1986 Ranger that I put 360k miles on. And now the Maverick.

No pics but I had an 87 Nissan Hardbody pickup. Manual transmission, no radio, bench seat. Just a truck with heat. Bought it used for 700 bucks. It was cheap and reliable. Had to get rid of it since there was nowhere to put a child seat, so the Mav is quite a step up with rear seat, heated seats and steering wheel. Last week I hauled a door and some mulch so I am loving having a truck again.

We had Chevy LUV pickups on the farm, which were really Isuzu pickups.

I did not have one (could not afford it) but I rode in my buddy's 1979 Toyota pick up. it was a very basic truck 5 speed with hand crank windows and air. His was a white one with a blue stripe.

1971 Datsun Pickup. My dad bought it new. Bought it from him in ‘75 for $500 when I got my license. That thing was bulletproof.
