Added CB / Scanner Antenna Hood / Fender Mounts

I added a scanner antenna and a CB antenna onto my 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat using 2 hood/fender mounts made for the Maverick from Walcott Radio https://www.walcottradio.com/ford-maverick-cb-antenna-mount-cable-p-3904.html . Using a 2' firestik II antenna for the CB with no issues for ground. Got a 1.17 SWR. No interference with or from the vehicle electronics.

In the center storage area under the climate controls. I was able to tuck it in by using a right angle antenna wire adapter (pictured). The scanner is temporarily in the cubby in front of the center console. I plan on putting it inside the center console and wiring a speaker out of the console at some point.

I don't use CB's or 2 meter's like I did years ago, but still like to be able to listen and jawjack on occasion. I've kept my radios limited to HT's now.

For CB, I have a handheld President Randy I can throw in the cub holder with a hand mic. I like it as I can transfer it to one of my bikes and connect via BT to my helmet, so the portableness is nice.

Obviously signal is going to be greatly limited, but I can still "Reach across the median and tap on the hood" when I need to.

I'm with you on having a communication device that is not dependent on wifi or cellular service. I haven't seen anyone else post about installing a CB, so I believe your thread will spark a lot of interest.

I suppose. Many newer radios have the ability to use wireless headset/mics. I would risk a ticket to report hazards on the highway or get traffic updates and directions. As a 1st responder we use radios and phones while driving, police do as well. They want to give me a ticket oh well.

Aren't they more or less "universal"?

I have a HT that get's me one mile in the big city. 2-3 miles line of sight in the country.

The antenna mounts hood/fender are designed to be installed on the maverick. The antennas can be used on any vehicle.

HT are cheap.. You can pickup a decent BaoFeng for under $30. You can then program with CHIRP to get some extra freq.

The antenna mounts hood/fender are designed to be installed on the maverick. The antennas can be used on any vehicle.

Yes. My state NJ you can have them as long as you are not committing a crime with it. I'm a Firefighter/EMT so I tend not to worry about it but it is good to know the individual state laws.
