Pardon my ignorance, but do the Ecoboosts not have the fuel tank release button? Mine is right there by the button for the bed light.

no only the Lariat has the fuel tank button. XLT and XL have a push to open fuel tank door.

The fuel tank door button is for Hybrids. I read someone else say that the hybrid has a pressurized fuel system is why it has a door that requires a button. I have XL hybrid and have the fuel door button. Hope this helps.
