Who Says the Maverick Isn't a Real Truck?

I wish that were true, people get really whiny about the Maverick on literally any site that isn't here or another Mav focused group.

I haven't even got mine yet and my brother is already on with the stupid comments about why I didn't get a "real" truck or how I should have waited 12-18 months and paid $15,000 more for a Tacoma because they're "better".
Although, this is a guy who has crapped on every Toyota I've ever owned so I'm very used to ignoring him but I already know he isn't going to be the last person to tell me how I should have spent my money.

Well we all know that guy. My good buddy has been running tacomas for a long time. His last two have had some issues. Nothing the dealer didn’t take care of. But he stated the reliability he was told about seems to be gone. He’s had transmission and other random issues.
Keep in mind he really put a truck through the paces so anything will break. But after riding in my maverick he will probably be driving one on his next purchase. I can tell you for a fact it does the two main truck things better than his 18 taco for sure. Hauling and towing. The towing isn’t even close. They handle the towing fine but his definitely struggles more and shifts a lot more.

I’m not sure sure that ever was the case in the USA unless you meant if we didn’t get involved.
Plus ev may not even be the future the leadership at Toyota seems to think ev is not going to be the future but efficiency in the ice development is. As much as I think that company gets to much credit for durability based on past models they seem to actually get the trends and trajectory of the industry right far more than anyone else.
Anyway I have always had trucks and after the past week of towing and off-roading in some very rough country I can tell you it is a truck.

I'm just saying if you consider the future to be next year or 10 years from now.

I had a good time at the bar Thursday night with a couple of guys I know- one drives a 1 ton GMC denali diesel the other a Ram( not sure the exact model)- both were beside themselves that I was considering a Maverick. It was entertaining

Ah yes, another glaring example of social media vs reality. I've NEVER had anyone say anything negative about my Maverick directly to me. It's always complimentary in nature.

I'm guessing people who paid over $70K for a big truck -- or guys trying to compensate for their "little Winston" -- might be thinking a Mav isn't a real truck.

There was something about that pick up. did everything I needed and did it with comfort and reasonable gas mileage.

I have owned 2 chevy 1500 trucks, 2 Chevy Avalanches and a Toyota back when they only had small trucks. In some ways that Toyota was my favorite truck and it was an SR-5 Toyota with a 22R 4 cyl motor and 5 speed.

Planning on replacing the Avalanche with a Maverick (hence being on the site and learning about the pros-many and cons-few of the Maverick) in the next 6 months. I don't need a full size truck anymore and the specs of the Maverick fit the bill. And compared to the growing ever larger and in my opinion ugly (GM mostly) full size trucks and the fact that even their "small" midsize trucks get dismal gas mileage, a Maverick or Santa Cruz was what I researched. A smaller truck that gets mpg in the 20s to low 30s for the 2.0 and looks stylish vs outlandish is what sold the Maverick for me. We leased a 2017 Ecoboost Escape that had great power/good mpg for a small SUV.

My local dealers are still adding "additional market adjustment" stickers on the Maverick which is one reason I am waiting and may buy out of state all the while they are now discounting the full size Rams, F150s and Chevy/GMCs.

RE: Buying out of CA = I did that with my 2016 GMC Canyon V6. Got a killer deal on it and it was worth it. Just be aware that CA has some strange rules. I had to get a weight certificate at a certified scale to registger it at DMV. I am trying to recall, but there are issues around the sales tax you pay the other state.

RE: Not a real truck = I have a problem when someone invokes "They" as if "They" have some kind of credentials, specialized knowledge and are an authority on the matter at hand. Don't be influenced by this. It gives the story teller false cover. There's a politician or two that do that.

As one poster wrote, he hauled umpteen bags of mulch. I hauled 1300 lbs of RTA kitchen cabinets a year back. Yesterday I picked up a new water heater, then took the old one to the recyle center.

On the ride home after the recyle center, I opened my sunroof, hit the button that opens the rear glass and felt the wind in my hair just like in a convertible. You will love driving a Maverick.

I find this interesting because of the number of full size trucks on the road that you can tell have never hauled anything but kids and groceries...Y'all know what I'm talking about. I've made comments about these ...hell for at least 10 years if not longer. I could never wrap my head around people that spend the kind of money to drive around in a mid to full size truck just to drive around in one

So the one guy I work with who drives the 1 ton GMC Denali I referred to in a previous post and I were talking about the Maverick and he started blabbering on and on about how I can't plow snow with it and all this nonsense. I told him I don't plan on plowing snow with my personal truck so you might as well be talking about whether or not I can fly it to the moon. He tried to tell me that's not the point. I said yes. The point is you spend $90,000 on a truck that you don't want to drive, you're worried if it gets a scratch and you wanted to make sure it could do all the things you're never going to do.... Shortly after buying the truck he got an enclosed work trailer. I told him he bought it to make "use" of the trucks towing capacity. He also feels that once it's out of warranty he has to get rid of it and get another one because they're too expensive to fix.....

There's an inverse relationship between the size of your member and the size of your truck. The smaller your shlong, the larger your truck. I rest my case.

I'll go a step further and say there's also an inverse relationship between the size of your truck, and one's IQ. How many full sized truck owners are hauling less than we do, yet they paid 70k and are getting 15 mpg?

I told a super duty owner I'd tow 30,000 lbs with my maverick the day he consistently got 50 mpg. I said the main advantage of your truck, being able to tow a lot of weight, is something people almost never use it for. Whereas one of the main benefits of the maverick, it's the excellent fuel economy, is something we gain from virtually every time we drive it.
