I bought the UPR catch can for both sides. Thought the clean side was more important to protect the turbo?
Very clean looking easy install on the dirty side (well worth it IMO). Not sure if I'll do the clean side catch can. I think those don't get as much stuff trapped in them.
Clean side catch can is there to keep the turbo functioning at its full potential.

The clean side can usually doesn't catch much oil/moisture/etc. I think if you really get into boost and hard acceleration is when the clean side may catch some nastiness.

I bought two OCCs but only installed the clean side. I found out that installing the dirty side is not necessary because the two hoses takes fumes from the crankcase and directs them into a OEM oil separator which does the same thing, forcing the crap to the bottom of the oil pan. A second can just defeats the purpose of the oil separator.

Definitely need to know more about this. Can you link to info on it? If I don't need to empty a can every 1k miles, I don't want to. But then again, not sure I want that nastiness in my oil either. When I've emptied it, it's orange and watery and smells of fuel.

Here’s a exploded view of the pcv hoses and the oil separator from Fords service manual

The catch cans from UPR are very easy to install. Takes maybe 1/2 an hour at the most. The hoses that come with the kit attach right to the factory fittings and to the can itself. The cans bracket (dirty side catch can)attaches to an existing hole with the bolt, nut & washers that's included.
I’ve watched a few YouTube videos, and it does look achievable; either way I do believe I would like to install one of these on my mav

Interesting. So where does all the nastiness go? Just back into the oil pan to be run through the engine again and again?
Most of what comes out is condensation, oil vapor and fuel but as it is mixed with water it is directed to the bottom of the oil pan. It is the crud that first comes out when the plug is pulled. Water doesn’t float so it is not recirculating because it is below the oil pickup. So I am told. In any event, unlike the clean side, it does not go into the engine via the intake galley above the valves and cause that coking problem .

That appears to be a "clean side" catch can plumbed into the breather system, which is also good to have, but the "dirty side" catch can plumbed into the PCV is the one that will catch the excess nastiness being fed back into the engine. Might consider adding one to your truck- worth at least looking into.
Will do thanks!

I installed the UPR clean and dirty sides, and opted for their improved check valve as well.

Installed at about 500 miles and catching lots of nasty stuff on the dirty side, very little on the clean side.

Very impressed with the quality of the setup, especially like the quick connect fittings. All made in USA high quality parts. Only thing I wish is that I could fit a larger can. It appears in the winter I need to empty about every 1k miles. Would love to be able to only do it at oil changes. Will see how it is in the summer.
Can you explain what this check valve is about and were it goes? Thanks

The check valve only goes on the dirty side between the catch can and intake, the clean side has to remain open. I'm not an expert, these are still new to me and I'm learning, but I believe this is needed due to the turbocharging. If you don't have this, you can pressurize your catch can. I don't know if this always happens or sometimes happens or might happen, but it sounds like a bad deal. I opted for an upgraded one from UPR just because I was doing it anyway and figured I might as well go all the way. Probably not necessary in my case, I'm sure the one they come with normally is fine. You can see it if you look at my picture on your right (driver side) it's a black cylinder installed in one of the hoses coming off the catch can.

So I'm ready to order the UPR dirty side oil catch can for my Maverick. I was just wondering what finish people have ordered? Satin or Black?
Thanks Jeff
