Driving home a month ago there was a large clunk and the transmission totally disengaged. Safely coasted to a stop and could never get it to move under it's own power again. Dash warning said AWD Malfunction, service immediately.

Towed it to Ford and they dug into it. Initially thought it was a speed sensor, which they replaced - no change. Then they went through the electrical system thinking there was an error there, no luck. They've now replaced the AWD control module and still nothing. They say the engineers are going to continue trouble shooting it, but the computers are all saying it's fixed shouldn't be having any issues.

Not sure how long this will take to fix the unknown haha, but with 7400 miles it should for sure be under warranty. Never driven hard, or even had it offroad yet. Such a bummer. Glad I have a dealership car in the meantime, but I just want my truck back!

Anyone else had any problems like this that didn't just go away like so many of the AWD issues I've read about on here?

Wow, thats horrible. Atleast your dealer accepted your truck for a service. My dealer is ignoring me after I purchase the truck. Good luck with yours. I wonder if ford really installs failed or used parts at the plant. Post back what they found out on your problem.

Wow transmission problems before you had the chance to change the fluid? I say that not to be disrespectful to you as I feel bad that you are dealing with this. I say it because recently there have been all these threads about how everyone with a Maverick should change their transmission fluid every 10k or 20k miles. I’ve been arguing that seems a little extreme for a service schedule and in your case and others your transmission didn’t even make it to the 10k mark. I hope the dealership can straighten this out for you and yes it most definitely should be under warranty!

Sounds like they aren't digging deep enough. After the trans disengaged dit it ever move under it's own power again. If not they definitely aren't digging deep enough. Shafts inside sase sometimes fail. They only check for imperfections every so often in any batch. I lil bubble or crack in a casting and a few hundred thousand revolution being imbalanced and boom, she snaps.

Good morning. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you have been working with? I would like to take a closer look at your Maverick's repairs on my end.

This sounds like a shift select module issue if anything. Dealer should be able to determine immediately if there is a physical problem with trans as these run only in fed all the time and then pull in the pTo as needed . The transmission is connected full time , all the time to the front wheels . Gear shift selector is the only thing that controls the park , neutral, drive selection ( with the solenoids in the trans of course.)The should be able to plug in with ford diagnostic repair service ( fdrs) and individually test these solonoids and the module . I do not see why it’s taking so long . A competent electronics trained tech should have that nailed down in 2 days tops !
And yes should be totally under warranty , as long as you didn’t splice into something in center console plug where gear shift selector is.
Good luck .

A quick question .
Did it make any other noises when in drive as you were coasting ?
Did you rev it while coasting or just stop and put in park?would it willingly go back in drive and slightly lurch or want to move and did you get a gear display on dash still?

Again, what issues are you having with your Maverick? It was just delivered.

No where did he report transmission problems. The transmission disengaged due to an AWD system malfunction.

Nothing yet says transmission failure, OP just described what occurred in his vehicle.

That sucks! I would not want to go without my Tremor that long! Glad the dealer stepped up with a vehicle for you.

Keep us posted as to what they ultimately find and what the resolution is!

SOrry to hear this. Hopefully it does get fixed soon because you have a great truck. I agree it sounds like they need to troubleshoot further and are trying to avoid a major replacement. Hopefully it's not the transmission itself.

Should be anywhere from 30-60k, and none of it will solve a major defect anyways.

A "large clunk" would make me suspect there is a hard part between the engine and wheels broken.

This is odd for sure.....as mentioned above, the FWD should have continued to function with an AWD fault.

Wondering if it might be an internal mechanical failure in the 8F35 (maybe TC related?), since no more codes are tripping.

Sorry you're the unicorn, but really curious to see what becomes of this.

Nope, just completely disengaged and was free-spinning until it came to a stop.
