My boss at work got a really nice new $80k F250 Lariat and he has this pretty cool cargo camera setup that it came with. From what I can tell, the F150's had this as an option as well then I started looking at the Mavericks 3rd brake light and cargo light combo. Stay with me here...

Roughly estimating, it looks like the 3rd brake light/cargo cam setup is the same size light bar. I wonder if one from an F150 will fit? If so, seems like the one with the camera option could be made to work.

Granted, I would likely need to upgrade to Sync 4 and play with Forscan but would this be cool?

Any thoughts or knowledge about the F150's 3rd brake light bar being swappable with ours? Not interested in a clunky aftermarket option. Either I do this OEM or nothing.

it's much more than just playing with Forscan. if you have a b&o truck it should be easier but there is at least one person who managed to get a sync2.5/FCA truck all the way to sync4.

I have zero interest in it after reading through much of that, but I'm pretty sure you'll want a sync4 non nav (because you can't use nav anyway) 8" screen apim.

I did see some people were even able to get the telematics unit working with sync4 so they can use some features of FordPass.

Interesting. So with the other post saying the light bar will fit, it sounds like this could work but it's a whole lot of work to go from Sync 2.5 to Sync 4.

The question is then, after Sync 4 is up and running, will I be able to enable the cargo camera?

LOL yeah, it would be a whole lot of nothing if you couldn't, eh? :)

For that I'd check the forums specific to whatever models of truck have that as a factory option. If people who didn't have it factory on their SD or F150 have successfully added it, you could maybe do it also. The backup camera definitely uses the APIM (sync2.5/3/4 unit). Question is, does the cargo camera also use only that, or is there another module it's talking to?

And if you have to do a recall, will this erase all of one's software adjustments?

Not having Sync 4 holds the Mav back a lot (or at least us non-Lariat guys) and Ford knew that when they dropped 2.5 on us.

It definitely would wipe any customization done with forscan if you do the turn signal warning recall, or any others that reflash the ecm. I have disabled the horn double-honk when exiting the cabin with the ignition in the on position, and it will be gone when I do this recall, but it's very easy to re-enable it. You've probably seen one of the many people with MY22 XLs who had added factory cruise control via Forscan or someone did it for them / before they bought the truck, and after the recall their cruise control is dead.

If you know it's a risk, you can try to defer recalls but helpful dealers might do it without asking. my wife's bronco just had an oil change and they did a recall for the wiper motor without me requesting it, or actually even approving it, lol.

I like tweaking on cheap things. It's fun. I do not like tweaking on things that are my primary mode of transportation, that's another reason I would not attempt a sync4 conversion.

My dealer's service department did not perform the turn signal hyperflash recall at my request. I flat out stated, "I have enabled options via Forscan that will be erased, and I don't have any LEDs installed"

"Works for us!"

EDIT: They also replaced my EVAP purge valve under warranty when I made that request.

EDIT 2X: I know I can't hold them off forever and it will eventually get reflashed. I'm very much a newb when it comes to Forscan, basically just follow whatever someone has explicitly laid out for me to do already.

Is it possible to save my modules as they are configured now and then just reload them once a dealer flashes it?

Ultimately making the changes won't be that difficult but I'd rather not do it again if I can avoid it.

The turn signal recall doesn't have to do with having LEDs installed.
