I see these tires being a purchase of mine in the near future... just gotta get wheels and lift I have in mind first, that way I can make sure it would all work together 😅

Wish there were a Mav-friendly 18" option. Great tires.

All that tread on the sidewalls really comes in handy when you’re up on two wheels about to tip over. Just hit the gas and you’re back in the race!

What I've never seen and maybe something people miss, is that the version that Ford mounted isn't the same as the ones you buy from the aftermarket... The OEM ones doesn't have the 'cooling ribs' by the rim and and much smaller sidbiter lugs! Took me a while to figure it out but after looking at a lot of pictures and wondering why many with the OE tires looked so lame vs. the ones people put on afterwards (and looking at my own on my Jeep XJ) the smaller/lame sidelugs became apparent!
Falken make an OEM fitment for the 4Runner. I run it on my Silverado, because it’s a 4-ply, instead of the normal 10-ply, in that size. Just like your observation, the Toyota version is much more tame and shallower tread, than the aftermarket option. However, this tire rides so much nicer and has outperformed the KO2’s I replaced, despite not being as aggressive.

I’m just not sold on this new tire actually being better, given the tread blocks are larger and closer together.

3 on the left. 4 on the right.

As always with tires, especially A/T's, there have to be some compromised areas. And it looks from reviews I've read that the '4' (which ISN'T a replacement for the '3' btw., just another option) that it's better in mud, rocks but not as comfy On-Road especially in the wet.

I'll see how the OEM Pirelli ATR's are and if not up to how I'll use the truck, it will get '3's' since I already run those since many years on my Jeep XJ, and they have been great!
Feels like a really bad deal though to swap brand new tires... 😵

The 3 IS being replaced by the 4. Discount Tire has confirmed it with Falken and Falken’s press releases state the same. It’s all over the web.

BFG A/T KO3 is a very similar tire and is doing the same thing from the KO2. Less void area gives better mileage, reduced noise, improved dry traction. Possibly less hydroplaning resistance, and definitely less mud evacuation.

Probably the best thing about the AT4W is the new rubber compound. They're constantly innovating there so newer tread is almost always better, both grip and durability.

Put the AT/4W on my XL AWD 4 months ago and I am very happy with them. I did lose mpg compared with the OEM Procontacts, but i drive on dirt and rocky roads so these Falken Wildpeaks will last a lot longer.
