After driving my hybrid for a year I finally replaced my steelie wheels with some aftermarket wheels and new tires. Since my truck didn't come with the "full size" spare that I ordered, my intention has always been to use one of the steelies as my spare. I read that some were having trouble fitting a full size tire in the spare location so I was expecting a fight to make it work. After dropping the donut joke of a spare I was able to lift the full size back in place without any issue. I'm not sure if the Ford trailer hitch I installed is different than the OEM installed hitch? It's tight but the tire does fit flush against the frame and looks okay under the truck. I've added pictures to show the clearance and final install. Just want to give a heads up to any who had the same idea. By the way, the donut spare is nowhere near the same diameter as the stock size tire. So I would not run it on the front any further that necessary to get a tire repaired or replaced. Running two different size tires on a trans-axle puts a huge strain on the gears. I've seen a trans-axle explode trying to do this.
