After driving my hybrid for a year I finally replaced my steelie wheels with some aftermarket wheels and new tires. Since my truck didn't come with the "full size" spare that I ordered, my intention has always been to use one of the steelies as my spare. I read that some were having trouble fitting a full size tire in the spare location so I was expecting a fight to make it work. After dropping the donut joke of a spare I was able to lift the full size back in place without any issue. I'm not sure if the Ford trailer hitch I installed is different than the OEM installed hitch? It's tight but the tire does fit flush against the frame and looks okay under the truck. I've added pictures to show the clearance and final install. Just want to give a heads up to any who had the same idea. By the way, the donut spare is nowhere near the same diameter as the stock size tire. So I would not run it on the front any further that necessary to get a tire repaired or replaced. Running two different size tires on a trans-axle puts a huge strain on the gears. I've seen a trans-axle explode trying to do this.

Appreciate this! I plan to do the same.
Those new wheels look great!

Nice to know a full size would fit. Someone else posted they cut the teeth off the bracket in front of the spare to make one fit.
Also, I'd only mount the donut spare on the rear even if it meant changing a good rear to the flat front. That would put a lot of pressure on the drive train if different size on the front.

Your full size spare is bigger than the donut but is not the same size as the stock size on the ground! The donut is designed and sized to be put on the ground and driven not exceeding 45mph to get a new tire ASAP!

Its my understanding that the piercer in pic 2 is designed to pierce the tire in the event of a collision for safety reasons. I think that's why even the "full-size" spare Ford offers isn't full size. It looks like it fits, but I'd be concerned a decent jolt will lead to a pierced tire.

I don't see why a full size wouldn't fit, its offered on the order sheet. Good thing it fits in there snug, wouldn't want that flopping around.

A matching full size tire does fit. Even the bigger tire that comes with the Tremor fits.

I have a Tremor with the 235 tires. I had a 235 tire put on a maverick take off steel wheel . Even with the hitch it fits no problem.

your full-size Spare has the same steelie rim, but the tire is NOT the same as mounted on the four hubs. But it is larger than the donut spare.

couldn't tell from the pics, is the full size tire you replaced the donut with a stock continental? 225/65/17? I'm considering doing the same but have 235/65/17 on mine.

This sticker on the driver's door jam will confirm which spare was shipped with the vehicle... Shown is what's referred to as the 'full size spare" (but smaller than the 4 tires on the ground) vs the smaller 'donut' temporary spare.

It's not actually a full size spare, it's larger than a donut but it's not the same size as the tires that come standard at all 4 corners. It's very misleading on Ford's part

Or you misinterpret what full size spare means.
