What can be added to XL later?

I saw an XL in person today and could be satisfied with that trim level for the most part. I actually prefer the less colorful interior. I do wonder however what might be added later that is not standard on the XL. For example, can the Keyless keypad be added to an XL later? A power tailgate lock? Obviously upgraded wheels are easily added later and it sounds like the Co-Pilot 360 can be ordered on an XL. Is there anything that -can't- be added to an XL later? A real reason I should consider an XLT rather than just the XL? BTW, we are only talking a FWD Hybrid here so things that only are available on a AWD Ecoboost don't matter to me.

Ford sells an accessory kit for a stick-on keypad on the door. I think it's around $100. Power tailgate lock is possible, no doubt, but adding in wheels, cruise control, etc you might be better off just getting an XLT.

Cruise can be added later but it’ll likely have to be aftermarket as it’s unlikely it’ll be as simple as swapping parts on the steering wheel (Ford has made that problematic lately). No offense to Rostra but aftermarket cruise control seems like something that could go horribly wrong to me.

This is an easy question. The answer is if you can afford it you can add it. Period.

Easy right. Except for me it's easier to say if you don't really need it and you can always add it later and money is an object, don't add it. 😄

Cruise can be nice if you do a lot of longer distance highway driving but I don't so I can live without it. Same with power seats and mirrors. Once I have the seat adjusted I rarely move it. Heck, I'd be fine with crank windows if they offered them. 😄

I live on cruise control, and use it around town too. In 35mph zone once up to 40mph I just hit cruise, then hit cancel as I'm approaching a stop sign or red light to let engine braking slow me down a bit before going on brakes, then as soon as I'm up to 40mph I hit resume.

I find that religiously using cruise control really helps fuel economy and is just more relaxing.

Copilot is a must on the XL IMO as it gives you power mirrors. Things like a power tailgate lock though are probably not easily added, as the wiring harness probably doesn't exist in there.

Like you, I was on the fence for an XL but actually may end up going Lariat hybrid now. The wheels/tires of the Lariat that I'm not fond of can likely be easily sold, and with some aftermarket bronze wheels on a blue exterior, you may actually be able to match the odd interior combo of the Lariat as well, and then you get a ton of other nice features.

XLT hybrid w/ 360 is $23,870 Invoice - 4% off invoice = $22,915, add on fees and you should be good still.

Not sure if any dealers are still doing that 4% off invoice deal, they still make plenty of profit doing that with the holdback.

If you add Co-Pilot 360 to an XL does that add Cruise as part of that package?

I switched from an xl to an xlt today. Price is just above 24k with spray in liner and 400 watt inverter! That includes destination fee.

Yeah but it doesn't include sales tax (6% in my state), doc fees, and all the other crap they seem to tack on. I need my down-the-road bottom line total to be under $25k. If I go for an XLT I would do it for the Hot Pepper Red color and that adds more too.

Main things that will be hard to add to the XL are the power mirrors and the cruise. I think there is a company developing a cruise control addon for the Maverick... Up to you if you are ok with that kind of addon.

I think the power tailgate lock might be easier to add then you might think. Power is already back there for the rear view cam. Its possible the hookup is there, you would just need the right lock module.

Only way to get an XLT under 25k is if you buy it from one of the chapman or grainger dealers doing under invoice 4%/3%.

Order from Ed Simpson at Chapman. Using the invoice sheet, his deal, and their fees I got directly from my price agreement here is what I come up with:

2022 XLT Hybrid - Hot Pepper Red
$22,745 (4% under invoice)
+$394 doc fee
+$123 license fee
+$1,365 taxes (6%)

OTD $24,627

Of course this is likely off by a few dollars, but you should be under $25k OTD including taxes and this is the truck you want. If you can fly to PA and make a road trip out of it, this would be the way to go. But that's a long trek.
