Key fobs in general are ridiculous they are so big. I had an 08 versa with a separate key and fob. It was a chip key barely bigger than a normal house key. The fob just had lock and unlock buttons. That and the house key barely took up any pocket space.

Since I have to carry a gigantic fob I put it on a carabiner type key ring that has keys, tools, USB thumb drives, etc.. It'd ludicrous but it is what it is.

When my wife had her used 2013 grand caravan, it came with 1 factory key. I bought ebay replacements. Had to have a locksmith program them since you need 2 originals to do it yourself. I probably bought 6 of them aftermarket keys. I'd get maybe a year out of them before the buttons went to crap. I wish you better luck.
Since I won't be using the buttons on this one, hopefully it will last a bit better.

Yes, this for the push button start so I don't need the key or buttons, just intelligent access, unless the battery dies. I'm thinking of getting the key cut and hide it somewhere on the truck so if I have to jump it away from home I can get in to open the hood etc.

My main issue was with the size, although the buttons did get pushed in my pocket a couple of times.
If you have issues with it being broken in your pocket, You could always remove the buttons from the circuit board to make it even thinner and then glue it to a piece of a stirring stick from Lowe’s to give it some more rigidity before heat shrinking it. If you cut the stick around the battery and have it on the same side, you can make it have uniform thickness.

Is that the key fob for the Lariat push button start? If that is the case, My truck will be an XL, so I will have no use for one, but if someone wants to send me a fob I will work on a 3D printed design. Is the problem size, or that the buttons are too easy to press in your pocket?
Both!

Im 300lbs and wear cutoff duluth jean shorts. I dont notice the extra weight and my thighs are fat enough to absorb the width of the fob. Besides Im likely to also have a whole other set of keys i dont even need every day, a 5 inch pocket knife, a wallet built for George Costanza with double chains, some crumpled bills, maybe a tool or small part of some sort, and bits of trash I see on the ground. I always have loaded pockets. No big deal.

Interesting though Ive never even heard of aftermarket fobs. I assume they dont have one for the folks who have actual key right?

Redneck Garage has a thread with links to aftermarket fobs:

Programming instructions from Redneck Garage's thread:

- Open center console and remove felt bottom
- Place first existing fob in depression
- Push start button (without foot on brake )
- Count to 3, Remove fob, Push ignition off

- Repeat above steps with second existing fob in depression

- Put new fob in depression, push AND HOLD start button - you should get a message right away on the instrument screen that key programming was successful.

Hcopter,

Okay, I just bought one, so we will see if the proximity sensor works after I harden/waterproof the board with epoxy. I will just need to stay away from the battery area so I can change them out every few years. I will keep you posted here on this thread if it's cool with you. Wish me luck.

Good Lord!! I try to travel light. My toolbox key for my work tool box key is on my ID badge around my neck. I have pared down the extra shit in my wallet, and periodically purge it of excess crap to keep it as thin as possible. I keep it in my front pocket to prevent lower back and sciatic nerve issues. Had a lower back disc issue, along with surgery and permanent nerve damage to my "clutch" leg.

Keys lol, my house and home shop keys are each on their own rings, and the only thing on the other ring is my maverick key, the key for the cable lock on the spare tire, and the locking tow hitch pin, along with a small remove before flight ribbon. I am a commercial aircraft mechanic after all. The only thing that connects all this is an S hook biner.

The only thing hanging in my ignition is the truck key and those other 2 keys with the remove before flight ribbon and the biner. I park in a secure parking facility, so when I leave home, the house and shop keys go right in the console.

Certainly interesting about key size, but the minor reduction in size would not be worth the risk of hassles for me. My next Maverick will have the keyless option. But I've had at least 6 lockouts when key was left inside in the seat.

I use my key fob to lock the doors, so I have not locked it in the truck yet.

I wouldn't mind a smaller sized fob. I thought it was huge as well. I at least want to disassemble one of my fobs just to remove the alarm button. I've accidentally pressed that SOB a dozen times in the few months of owning the Maverick. I've yet to press that button at all on any other vehicle in the past. Pointless button and oversized on the Maverick fob!

I hate that honking that goes on when I accidentally push on the alarm button. And I do it all the time it seems. I was under the impression that I could disable that in ForScan so I will look for those posts here someday. Until then I am going to be bothered by the fob size and button pushing.
I have four sets of keys for the different trucks I need at work and office buildings and trailers. so all of them, the phones, the wallet, and my lunch all go in a backpack rather than on me. I have nerve problems in the back if I sit on a wallet so I don't do that anymore. The phones are for me to answer when I want to and so at lunch is a good time to catch up on messages.

If no message it was a spam call right?
