What am I not understanding here? What does this do that simply using the FordPass all via your phone does not?
Allows remote start when you may not have your phone on you, family or friend is driving your vehicle, cell reception is poor/nonexistent, app is not loading/working.

The key fob is a direct wireless connection to your car. FordPass has to communicate over the internet to a server which will then relay the command via cellular to the car.

The former is immediate; you press the buttons and it receives the commands. The latter requires opening the app, selecting the vehicle, selecting start, sending the command to the server, (hopefully) authenticating on the server, and then sending the command to the car. The best case scenario is several seconds of delay, provided you are somewhere with good signal.

Ordered the fob remote start because the app isnt reliable for me. I just gave up on using it and near forgot about it because it just didnt work so often. Its not like im in a bad cell service area too. It just didnt work a lot.

i mean its the fordpass app so id assume its by them. Either way I had many days of the app not loading my car or failing to remote start when trying to use the app.

Since I figured out how to pre program the remote start times, its not as much an issue but using it on demand was never the easier task.

Do you still need the original Key Fob after starting to continue to drive? I ordered one then realized I'll now have 2 fobs instead of 1.

From the Remote Startx website...
"The base package provides you with the ability to remote start by pressing lock 3 times on your existing factory remote, eliminating any need to carry an additional remote."

I just installed the Start-X remote start kit on my '23 XLT Hybrid. The hardest part is getting to the back of the OBD socket to unplug the connector.

I dislike the FordPass app. And I cannot have my phone at work (it's a SCIF) so I leave my phone in my truck so it wouldn't do me any good anyways.

The Start-X kit works perfectly. I didn't use the zip ties; I just tucked it up behind some other wiring harnesses above the hood release. Easy peasy (y)

Nope, the just squeeze the tab on the connector and pull it out. It's in kind of a tight spot as there was a large blue wire that runs just behind the connector that I had to push out of the way. The locking tab is on the bottom, facing the floor. Push it up, towards the roof and pull the connector towards the firewall. You might have to give it a little wiggle but it should pop out.

For me, that was the most difficult part of the install.

OEM Remote Start only follows your pre-shutdown setting. Are you saying this device works better than OEM in that it will read outside temps and automatically turn on HVAC, regardless of pre-shutdown settings?
Really? When I had my 2022 and even my new 2023 model both started and chose the temperature it ran on during startup regardless if I shut the truck off with everything off for example.
In the winter, it would turn the seats and steering wheel hear on along with the fans with heat. In the summertime, the A/C would get turned on.

Which trim level do you have? I have the Ecoboost XLT with Lux. Maybe that's why?

From owners manual.

REMOTE START SETTINGS Switching Climate Control Auto Mode On and Off 1. Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Settings. 2. Select Vehicle. 3. Select Remote Start. 4. Select Climate Control. 5. Select Auto or Last settings. Note: If you switch the auto mode on, the system attempts to heat or cool the interior to 72°F (22°C). When you switch the vehicle on, the climate control system returns to the last used settings. Note: If you switch the last settings on, the system remembers the last used settings.
