I drive 30 miles to and 30 miles back home from work daily, with about 8 miles (4 each way) surface streets with lots of stop lights.
My freeway miles range from between 30 and 70mpg depending on traffic, the slower traffic is the better my MPGs.
On the weekends I drive 10-30 miles mostly surface streets.

Thus far I am averaging 44.5 MPG on 87 octane combined. I'm not lead-footed, but occasionally stomp on the accelerator pedal to pass a vehicle.

On days where there is heavy freeway traffic, I get up to 53 MPG on my 30 mile commute

For those who have a similar commute, is this about average? Also, separately, is anyone experiencing better MPG with higher octane fuel?

Thanks

Not as good as you (I haul-ass on my way to work in the mornings), but I've averaged 47.3 mpg in the last 11k miles.

I was about to pat ya on the back there Henry, show you the secret hand shake, and welcome you to the club. Then you had to go and ruin a perfectly good post by mentioning that octane thing.

(Psssst. Henry...... Lowest octane is fine, usually the best for the hybrid engine, because the "compression" listed in "the bible" does not apply to Atkinson Cycle engines like the one you purchased because the valves are held open partly into the compression stroke lowering compression. Shhh.... don't tell the EcoBoost owners. Makes them have a hissy-fit and you'll never hear the end of it. )

I drove around all Summer in West Yellowstone Montana, gravel roads, and highways, roughly 1500 miles, and got 44.3 mpg. Traded in an 18mpg F 150 and at $4.50 a gallon am overjoyed with the mileage.

That's about spot on for me (driving distances, habits, octane). Same, but I've observed a pretty signficant drop in MPG with the coming on of the cold. Went from just above 45.5 for first 1800 miles, to closer to 43.5 in these last ~400 miles as the weather turned COLD. I'm guessing (and observing via the drive coach) that the Mav seems to use the hybrid battery to power the heater, heated stearing wheel and seats. Or I'm just a biased observer, heh.

I can do almost that well in the summer, but the colder winter temps are hard on the MPG. Also, there are a lot of hills where I live and it costs more gas to go up a hill than is saved when going down, so I'm never going to get the mileage some flatlanders do.

You could do us all a big favor by keeping spreadsheet accurate records of your MPG for, say, 2,000 miles using 87 octane, then running your tank as dry as you dare then fill up with premium and keep perfect track of your mileage and cost for the next 2,000 miles.

My Hybrid gets about 25-26 mpg on gas not bad for a 2.5L ice. There are some extra tooth fairy miles I don't count those. So 25-26 all good.

My MPG is about the same.

Just did a 7,000 mile trip mostly at 75-80 mph and my MPG dropped to an average of 36-39 mpg...much better MPG at those speeds than I expected. My best MPG is on interstates with cruise control set.

I never complai about 25-26 mpg

So I live in Florida I am about 650 miles from Chattanooga for the folks that feel they get 47-50 mpg that easy right?

From Melbourne FL, 95 North to 10 East to North 75. If you can't due that on ONE tank of gas quit saying you get 47-48 mph. 650 miles a Gimmie .

Where do ya get your 'shine from?

Better go somewhere else. They're not removing the heads and tails.
