I have XL model with ecoboost motor. Last winter hot air worked fine. Last month went on a road trip and noticed during trip that heater didn’t work. I’ve tried everything and nothing works. Any ideas? Does this truck have an electric heater?

EB just uses a traditional heater core, using heat from the engine to warm the cab. Could be a bad heater core. Either that or there is a bad module, and the desired settings are not being applied , so it doesn't push heat.

Just checked coolant level-
It was at the minimum mark so I just topped it off to max level. I’ll have to test it tomorrow to see if that did anything or not.

There is probably a solenoid valve that controls the flow to the heater core, maybe that isn't opening, but it will be up to them to diagnose. I like knowing what it could be, but never tell them what I think it could be.

I ran motor just now with heat full blast.
I’m pretty sure it’s working now, it felt pretty warm and it’s 40 degrees right now. Now my concern is why it’s losing coolant with only 8,000 miles on truck.

Unfortunately thats not going to be enough to make a difference. Mine was at minimum for a long time before I topped it off and the heater worked great. Im guessing it will be an electrical issue.

Thats good to hear. I doubt you are losing fluid. My ecoboost at 18000 miles was at the low level and ive been testing my oil. No coolant contamination. It was just at low level since factory.

Thank you again for your suggestion on fluid level possibly being low. I hope that you’re right about it already being low from factory.

I’ll check my oil also and I already have a service appointment next month to check it all out.

Mine was also at the minimum mark at 11k when I got it. Topped off, hasn't dropped at all, first test will be done next month. I don't suspect any issues as my Tacoma and Escape were the same way from the factory.

You never said………
Did your temp gauge come up to the center of the dial, more or less?
Both before and after the added coolant.
Either way………shouldn’t be losing coolant at only 8k miles.

temp gauge did not get up to temp on gauge for test after topping off coolant. I ran motor at idle for about 10 minutes. I will
Test later today when I drive truck.

when heater was not working, I was driving initially a road trip about 400 miles per day.
Gauge was showing temp. in the middle where it should be. Once I got home from trip, I still noticed heater not working.
