2023 Maverick Tremor won't start.....

The last two mornings my Mav wouldn't start. Called AAA for a jump and they said it had only 10.6 volts; not enough to start. Once it got going, it was at 15 volts, which the tech said was ok. I drove it around for a while yesterday, and it started a number of time before I turned in last night. This morning, wouldn't turn over. The battery is the original one that came with the truck last March. I have about 10,000 miles on my Mav.

I double checked last night and it did not appear that any interior light remained on or anything like that.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I have an appt at Walnut Creek in CA for next week.

My two cents: get a new temp battery to get you going till the appointment, disconnect it every night.
Put back the original one once you get to the appointment, most likely it will be replaced under warranty

15 volts might be a lot. Most alternators charge in the high 13s. Perhaps the alternator is overachieving and tripping a charging circuit relay. Then running out whatever juice you got at that point. Just a guess, I don't have a ton of experience with 2010 and newer. A way to test the battery itself is to disconnect it overnight and see if it drops voltage with zero load.

battery probably has a weak cell causing it to drain overnight

had the same problem with a new (less than a month old) 2000 Ranger, two trips to the dealer were fruitless. Third time I called them to come tow it, they replaced the battery and all was good

Tell me you don't know how a charging system works without telling me you don't know how a charging system works.

15 volts is pretty common for modern controlled alternators. They charge hard and fast to recoup the starting energy used and then drop down to minimum to reduce the parasitic load on the engine for better economy. It's why there's the current sensor on the battery ground cable.

It's the OP here again.

It's an AGM battery that came stock.

When I tried to start it this morning, it sounded like it wanted to turn over but just couldn't get there. I used a NOCO Boost plus to jump it. Very handy thing to have. Can charge your phone too and has a flashlight.

This......or did your dealer install an aftermarket alarm system to your Maverick? (a lot of dealers install an alarm system to the vehicles whether you like it or not). Is there a KARR sticker on your window?

10.6V cold is a dead battery. I don't know why the AAA tech didn't tell you that. It's not coming back, even an AGM has lost capacity at that level.

Anything much below 11.5V for a AGM or flooded battery is fatal. As in, it'll never hold 12V cold again, and needs to be replaced.

Wal-Mart's EverStart Platinum AGM is a great battery for the money. If you can't get a replacement from your dealership today, go get one.

No, nothing like that. I had an ARE shell put on that has an interior bed light. But I double checked that that was off. It's tiny, 3 LEDs, I don't think much of a draw.

Most likely just a defective battery. The OEM Mav batteries are pretty low quality. Dealer should replace under warranty, unless they find something else.
