I didn't notice this crack/split until a fellow co-worker, who also owns a Maverick, mentioned that his steering airbag cover has a crack where the cover splits when the airbag deploys.

There are two divisions at the location where we work, airbags and electric steering. A guy from the airbag division approached my steering division co-worker and mentioned that our company designed and manufactures the airbags, steering wheel, and seat belts for the Maverick. He wanted to see if there was a crack in the cover. He took a picture of the cover and said that this is a manufacturing defect.

I'm going to point it out when I take the Maverick to the dealership for the weak battery that puts it into deep sleep mode all the time.

Does anyone else have this issue?

I think it is a split. I haven't pressed on it to see if it is a split...yet.

What's it in for? I have a weak battery in mine. I'll ask about the airbag when I am at the dealership getting the battery replaced.

IS is it really a split/crack? I've noticed that on my wheel, too, but to my eyes it seems more like it's just the way the ridge of that line is molded.

You are correct in saying it's the way it is molded. And it is molded incorrectly. It is more a cosmetic defect and not a functional defect, but a defect nonetheless.

If you give it time it will split through. I’ve had this issue twice.

I just posted about this yesterday. I have the same issue, in the same spot. I rarely use the horn, clean it with a dry cloth and it never sits in the sun. This is my second one that has split. They replaced the first under warranty. The first one actually split all the way through.

I’ve had this issue twice and the first time it actually split through and could see the bag. Pretty sure it’s going to be a recall soon.
