Once it hits the freezing temp of 0C/32F, my maverick won’t get above the 3rd bar on the temperature gauge. Doesn’t matter how long the drive is, even after hours on the highway. Is that a normal thing? Or do I need to bring it to get checked out?

i just picked up my 23 yesterday and noticed that the temp gauge never went over 3. i thought it might be low, but then again i thought that must be normal. had heat though. outside temp was low 60's.

It takes a really, really long time to come up to temp, especially when cold. Lucky for you, you've got 250 ponies' worth of power to get it up to temp quicker.

I'm seeing 3 bars @ with 40's temps. Went all the way up to 55 today but did not drive the truck.

If the temperature of your engine was not sufficient enough too close loop your PCM you would get a code P0125. Or a PO 128 malfunctioning thermostat or low coolant level. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Was your vehicle service recently?

is this your first vehicle? once a vehicle gets to operating temp, unless there is a malfunction the ecm will set the gauge at a certain point and it wont change. if it moved for every degree, then people would complain that it fluctuated too much. if its within the operating range its fine. just pay attention if it goes to extremes. remember new cars are pretty idiot proof. but they keep making better idiots.

Yes, it is an ecoboost.

It does blow heat when it’s cold out thankfully.

Recent services, yes. Dealership services, no.

Not my first vehicle, but first with the little blocks for temperature instead of a needle gauge. Maybe none of my other vehicles got up to temperature but I never noticed because the needle looked close enough?

I just wasn’t sure if it was normal for these little 4 cylinders to not get up to full temperature. Im not surprised when really cold out but even just at freezing temp it doesn’t reach 4 bars.

That's a mouthful. I can't speak to the EcoBoost but I can tell you that my hybird is nothing like warm during my commute. I have noticed that if I leave the city streets and get on the highway then its closer to but not like what I would expect or had seen during warmer months. Glad I opted for the block heater.

No recall work as of yet. Took delivery in September.

I live in some mighty cold country, which is why I opted for the engine heater.
I too ordered the engine block heater. I understand the the block heater promotes the electric hybrid system and works better at the start of the day.
guessing the cab would Warm faster.
mid Michigan, XLT silver, 360, lux package 22-16-22 order now on roll over.

I'm honestly not sure how well the factory block heater works for the hybrid. Maybe mine is defective? I plugged mine in for over an hour last winter before I was going out, made no difference in how long it took to get up to temperature. It was -14°C / 6.8°F, so not extremely cold or anything, but I thought it would at least bring the ICE up sooner and make it more efficient for short trips. Coolant temp never got over the first bar on the temp gauge for 20 minute trips.

Edit: Could also be due to the removed shutters on the lower front for the air intake?
