Hitch Tail Light by tapping into rear brake light?

Has anyone tapped into the rear brake light in order to run a hitch mounted LED brake light. I don't want to use the hitch receiver since it turns off the rear warning. Just would like an extra tail light by my hitch...

A year or so ago someone posted that to use the 4 pin hitch plug for lights without truck thinking trailer was attached the wires in the plug for the light had to be switched. To turn off the "I am a trailer" detection. I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, I think I saw that as well... but trying not to use the trailer lighting as well.

Would like it to be an extra brake light ... i own a pc repair business, and found a hitch light that is a power button logo. Would be cool to have it light up red when i brake. My company name is greenlight techs ...

Take a look at the back of the truck.

The same bulb / wire for brake lamp is also turn signal.

Do you want this to blink when you turn left? Or right?

GPSMan, it can’t be the same wire or your brake and signals would both be going off all the time.

Or, y'know, they're separate circuits controlled via microcontroller.

You could tap both taillights and use a brake light logic module to combine the signals.

I dont want it to blink when turning. I want it to only turn on when i brake. It is why i asked if anyone has done this and if they jad any issues.

Or maybe it would be cool if i was turning right to blink..... if thats the case, shouldn't be an issue then.

neither blinking nor brake lights work with this solution, but leaving either L or R wire connected MIGHT provide brake and one blinking …

I want it to act as a brake though.... so clipping wires wont work.

I think there is a way to keep the blind spot warnings on with a trailer (or trailer plug tapped) with Forscan. But it might only work with the tow package.

You set trailer length to zero feet or some simple like that.
