My dealer just reached out and offered to add the SECURICODE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD to our 24 Lariat. Build is scheduled for Oct 16th. They want $230 for the option plus install. How does the functionality of this dealer installed keypad differ from the Ford factory keypad on the earlier model years? Is it worth the cost or should I just have them delete it? Appreciate any thoughts or comments.

The KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT FACTORY REMOTE START retails for $120. Include Installation for $24.00. Same price for KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR VEHICLES WITH FACTORY REMOTE START. Pass on their offer and order it later.

Main difference is that it's a battery powered, stick-on unit. It's not integrated into the door and is not powered by the car battery. The unit doesn't have a user replaceable battery but it should still last several years since it doesn't take much power.

One benefit is that since it's a simple stick on if you wanted to move it somewhere less obtrusive you can. (some members hide it inside their fuel door)

You can only do that with an eco boost car. The Hybrid fuel door can only be opened by pressing a button on the dash.

Thank you all for the assistance. It is listed on the factory build sheet I received from the dealer but it was a little unclear it was a dealer installed option until I looked at the line item for TOTAL DIO OPTS.

Has anyone come up with an inconspicuous place for the keypad on a hybrid?

I had one inside the fuel door of my Focus and that worked well.

Without a tonneau cover, inside the bed wall would work?

Mounted to the base of the rear window, where it meets the bed wall, would be inconspicuous, especially if there's a tonneau installed.

Nobody would think of looking on the passenger side of the vehicle?

Other places that come to mind, if you don't mind getting down on the ground, there's the side of the 'frame' rail under the bed, or somewhere else under there, near the back of the vehicle. - It might get covered in debri from the wheels however.

That's about the only flat areas I can think of off hand.

honestly i see a LOT of folks really like this keypad. I must be a little slow on this passion and understanding the value. if you can unlock the door with the key fob or your phone it seems to be limited value. Maybe you can lock keys and phone in car if going to the beach or other place you wouldn't want to take your keys and phone?

The advantage comes when you have small children/grandchildren in the vehicle and inadvertently lock the keys/fob inside with the child. Turns an oh shit moment into a I got this moment

That is what I was thinking. It would be nice to lockup phone and keys in the car then head out for any water sports or trips to the waterpark if you don't want to pay for lockers. I get tired of lugging around a smart phone when fun is on the agenda.

Not sure what is behind this area, but it would make a great spot to install the key pad.

I do a lot of hiking and it's great to have one less thing to carry, especially when you're out in the woods where cell signal is non-existent.

But it mainly when I run out to the driveway in my underwear to grab something from the truck and DON'T have to grumble and head back to the house because I forgot the keys.

Its nice if you live near the beach or have another need for locking everything in your vehicle.
