The bigger issue at stake???

What's going to happen to all those assembly lines, once internal combustion engines are deemed illegal???

Government has a plan-

Electric cars for all, coming soon...

EVs still require assembly. They don't pop into this world entirely whole from the plane of woke environmentalism.

They also require power, which is insufficient presently. Have you heard of them building any new power plants? If, IF, we get any quantity of electric vehicles power demand will go up hugely and electrical costs will skyrocket.

what makes anyone think that magically Chinese quality will improve and their EVs won't be another version of the Yugo

under Chinese management?
Uhhhh-

I wouldn't know personally, but I'd imagine everyone and everything in China is under Chinese management...

Ford, Tesla ect. Have electric car factories in China. It wouldn't surprise me if we see even more amazing copycat designs.

An electric motor has something like 20 parts, vs 2000 parts in an ICE.

EVs are gonna be cheaper and easier to make, with a lot fewer parts and fewer workers right down the line, no matter how long you look at it-

One of the articles said that they now make $65 an hour I had to read twice and not sure if it's true or not but I sure wish before I retired I made $65 an hour . I'm not sure and I don't know that's lots of money 😕😱🤔❓💰and wanting more ❓ Plus cola .
the $65-$100 p/hr labor labor cost's that the Companies quote to the public and media are made up numbers for the most part. pay rates are clearly identified in the contract. as is the benefits package. the OEM's get their labor cost estimates by assigning any & every stray cost they can to the labor column. u need gloves or other personal protective equipment? thats folded into "labor costs". if they were really paying $65+ i would probably still be there.

it only seems fair to me that the OEM's are forced to make good on their promises to restore benefits; deferred pay raises; COLA and other concessions granted to them during the great recession when they were teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. when we gave all that away it was with the promise to be made whole when things turned around.

one more. during the 2009 negotiations the UAW agreed to establish and administrate retiree health care. thus removing this huge expense entirely from the various companies books. this was a savings of BILLIONS of $$$ for them going forward!! do any of you recall big or small price reductions in the cost of new vehicles as a result of these enormous fixed cost reductions? of course not is the answer.
if the UAW were to somehow agree to a 50% across the board paycut these companies would still find a excuse to raise prices!! that may sound cynical but its true. UAW wages are not even close to the main reason new cars cost so much today folks no matter what the companies want you to believe. Solidarity Forever!!!

From article:

“It’s now clear that the UAW leadership has always intended to cause months-long disruption, regardless of the harm it causes to its members and their communities,” GM said in a statement.

Months?!?!? That doesn't sound good for those of us waiting on Maverick orders to be built.

I hope Ford can stay on the better side of the UAW, and maybe avoid the worst repercussions of the strikes.
i would be amazed if this dragged on for 'months' . if as seems likely based on recent events Ford cuts a fair deal with the UAW soon it wont take long for the others to fall in line. the UPS contract was a game changer for the labor movement and the UAW will prevail as well i do believe.
