not sure what's going on with Stellantis but GM has been doing some public bad mouthing so not surprised there.

From article:

“It’s now clear that the UAW leadership has always intended to cause months-long disruption, regardless of the harm it causes to its members and their communities,” GM said in a statement.

Months?!?!? That doesn't sound good for those of us waiting on Maverick orders to be built.

I hope Ford can stay on the better side of the UAW, and maybe avoid the worst repercussions of the strikes.

Odd that this article says UAW is asking for a 36% increase over 4 years. It was originally reported as 42%. One problem is that the union wants the healthy raises PLUS a cost of living adjustment (COLA). That could mean huge raises in years of high inflation. I’m sure the negotiators are shooting lower…moderate raises and a partial COLA.

Looks like there is hope for us yet:

UAW president Shawn Fain announced the union was expanding its "stand up" strikes at 12 p.m. ET Friday, but only against GM and Stellantis, after the union said “real progress” was made with Ford in negotiations this week.

I just received my window sticker for my Mustang, the strike needs to avoid Ford until after its built.

That's total compensation so including healthcare, stocks, pension or 401k matching, etc. The actual payable number is more like $28/hr.

Given the amount of money needed today to have the same lifestyle as autoworkers had back in the 60s, $65/hr might barely be enough for a single income household with stay-at-home spouse and college-bound kids.

It sounds like a lot, sure, but only because the trend for wages has been TERRIBLE since the 80s. For 40+ years, lower and middle class incomes have been horribly suppressed. We're ALL terribly underpaid compared to what we COULD be making if it weren't for "supply side" economics.
