I looked up led headlights (Google) and turning on and off does not reduce the life of the bulb, heat does……. I remember an article saying in cold weather, led headlights can create ice forming from the heat.

For me, in the town, I turned them off, on the highway, let them shine….

And they get hot when turned on, so turning them off extends their life. At least logic says so.

First, they come on automatically, so it’s no bother.

I would think that having DRL turned on while driving city streets has more of a benefit that on a highway.

It would help in preventing someone making a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. On a divided highway where everyone is driving the same direction the only time you would see someones DRL is in the rear view mirror.

The key thought is "120 VAC". I'll bet every single one died because of the cheap power conversion circuits and not a LED failing.

Also being Dollar Store $1 made in China junk. I too have had them not last a year, but I understand the issue a little, and don't conflate the two..

Where I think they are helpful;
(This is me)

Windy, twisty, forested roads, where there are intersections. And when passing on such roads.

IE: three-fourths of Canada.

100% of the Oregon Coast.

They do make residential & commercial bulbs, but no vehicle bulbs.

Thank God. I spent $500 on Cree LEDs when I bought a new house in 2014. Over 25% of them flat out died or started to flicker after a year. Cree wouldn't warranty them unless I had the original packaging. Who saves lightbulb packaging? My receipt got me nowhere. Changed them all out for Philips and never had a problem after that.

I've not yet had a home 120 VAC LED lamp last the full rating. Not a single one.

but how many Ford headlight LED lamps have you had to replace?
I've yet to replace any household LEDs (I didn't buy them until they were cheap enough to make sense, though - 2014-2016 I'd guess)
